On View - 'Limitless' by Roy Nachum
Led by visionary artist Roy Nachum, Mercer Labs redefines the art landscape. 'Limitless' is a journey through Nachum's psyche, childhood memories, and vision of nature. Nachum redefines the viewer's experience by transitioning between narrative and abstraction, exploring the intricate spatial framework of source imagery and technical direction.

The exhibition addresses the challenges and possibilities that technology has opened in art, and what it means to live in the digital age. Utilizing digital tools and machine intelligence to challenge human perception.

His experimental approach incorporates elements from art history, conceptualism, and interactivity, to defy conventional artistic boundaries and explore complex psych-visual factors like sensory substitution, hypnagogic imagery, internal representations, and mental rotation.

"No thank you"

It seemed cool at first but it’s a lot of noise for nothing spectacular, not worth the price and I had the student discount. I saw a review saying it was awesome and they spent 2 hours inside, even with staying in each room a bit I did the tour in maximum 40 min. There are some nice things to see I’ll admit, but I would not recommend to see this museum if you hesitate between few of them. I also visited the 9/11 museum and Museum of Natural History during my trip and this one was definitely my least favorite even tho I was sure it would be my fav bc I love lights and visuals. Wouldn’t waste my time again.

"Impressive set-up, but an overall very confusing experience."

Mercer Labs is quite new, and certainly impressive. I go to many of these “immersive” experiences, and the quality of the setup is impressive. The video projections, mirrored rooms and lighting is complex and well executed. It really is a best-in-class in terms of technical execution. I was there with my 2 children, and overall we had a good time as family. We spent over 2 hours there (in large part because of the drawing area where you can colour in dinosaurs). So good experience length, although important to note that this is an EXPENSIVE experience. BUT - and I accept this might not be important to some - it has a problem with its story. I tried really hard to understand what (if any?!) narrative was weaving through the series of rooms. I felt like I was not clever enough to figure it out. There is a cryptic writing that seems to flow between the rooms, but I couldn’t piece together what the narrative was. So as impressive as each room was, I ended up treating them as standalone experiences. I also felt it was a shame that there was nothing truly interactive given the amount of technology deployed. So, overall, I would recommend it as an impressive audio/visual experience. It’s very well executed. Just don’t go expecting to understand it!

"Surreal experience for the senses"

Amazing. This is a surreal experience. Spent 3.5 hours there and could have spent longer. Calm, quiet experience … a lot for your senses to take in. Best thing I have done in a long time … to those grumbling I can only say you must have picked a bad day.

"Waste of time"

A ripoff and waste of time. Lots of fantasy light shows and exhibits with little to no explanation of what they were, how they were engineered, which is the focus of Mercer. It’s a way to waste an hour and learn nothing.

They charge $36 for each baby under 2 years old and don’t allow strollers. Used to allow kids under 3 free but saw dollar signs in those wondrous eyes.
