I had a great time I really love this zoo. It may have some construction but I love that it’s expanding after the 100yrs of it being open, I’ve been to this zoo as many times that I can imagine.

"This zoo is great for a morning visit!"

We have visited many zoos around the world. This rates as one of the better ones. The rhinos are particularly interesting. Went in the morning, as afternoon was in the mid-90s and humid. GO IN THE MORNING!

"A Nice Zoo That's Rapidly Improving"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed May 03, 2024
We enjoyed our trip to the San Antonio Zoo; the zoo is nicely laid out and is built in an old rock quarry, so it has an interesting design with lots of ups and downs. The entrance to the zoo is beautiful and very welcoming. They had several animals on display that we had never seen before like hyenas, African wild dogs, and a Komodo dragon, as well as the standard lions, crocodiles, hippos, giraffes, and bears. They had several add-on experiences you could do for an extra fee like feeding the giraffes or the birds; there's also a train that you can ride around the park. Lots of tropical birds on display like flamingos, roseate spoonbills, and toucans, and they have a small aquarium with colorful tropical fish. This is an older zoo that's rapidly improving. One thing we loved was the new Pantera Walk that allows the jaguars to stroll from one area to another using an elevated overhead walkway. They're also constructing a new larger area for their elephants and building a huge enclosure called Congo Falls for the gorillas. I like that they're giving the animals more room to roam and putting them in more natural settings. We came early in the morning and found it easy to park in their free parking lot, but I can see that it could get crowded later in the day. Ticket prices vary by day, but run high. We had a coupon for $10 off per person and still paid $50 for the two of us. That can get pretty expensive for families with a lot of children. We purchased our tickets online. I'd recommend signing up for their email list to gain access to discounts and buy one get one free days. All in all it took about two hours to see everything from start to finish, and we enjoyed our visit.

"We had good luck with animals moving about and not just laying in the shade."
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5

We had an amazing visit to this zoo and greatly enjoyed the animals. We had good luck seeing animals moving about; the lion walked out of his indoor space just as we were about to give up on seeing him, and walked all across his outdoor enclosure. The extremely large snakes, I think pythons, have a large pool in their enclosure and one moved all about and into the water, across the pool and back out the other side. It was a great day to enjoy learning about and viewing animals.
