"An Amazing Tour Guide Made Up For A Lackluster Company"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed January 09, 2025 NEW
This would be a 3-star (or lower?) review if it wasn’t for Adrian, one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had. We have taken bike tours all over the world and this was one of our most memorable experiences! The experience got off to a rocky start before it even began. I booked the Washington, DC Day Bike Tour through the Fat Tire Tours website and then received a confirmation from Unlimited Biking for the Monuments and Memorials Bike Tour, which is a completely separate tour. That took some emailing back and forth to fix, but okay, no problem. On the morning of the tour, we arrived at the address provided in the confirmation email. Unfortunately, there was no tour company to be found, only an empty store front. We called the number in the confirmation email and no one picked up. Fortunately our child noticed some bikes down the street so we headed in that direction. We found an Unlimited Biking employee bringing bikes out to the street and he directed us where to go. When we mentioned to the employee inside that we went to the address in the email, he said, “Oh yeah, everyone has a problem with that.” Apparently, the company is in the process of moving/renovating, but didn’t put that information in their confirmation emails. We told the employee checking us in that they should put that information in the email, but he told us that they have told corporate this many times and “they don’t listen to us.” Someone called my husband back once the tour had already started and stated that we should have seen a sign on the old address informing us of where to go, but we checked after the tour and there was no sign to be found. The employees who helped us get checked in, sign our waivers, and get our bikes in the store were efficient, but not friendly at all. The bikes were in decent shape overall, though the gears on my eleven-year-old’s bike were loud and somewhat difficult to change. Beware that the pouches on the bikes are on the small side. Adrian was our tour guide and this is the only reason I can recommend this company. He was friendly, knowledgeable and always made sure we were safe while having a good time. We knew we were going to be in for a cold tour in January, but no one had any idea the wind was going to be so crazy when we left on our tour. Adrian’s good humor made the tour fun, even as he had to make the route up on the fly because a crazy person running their car on the Capitol grounds created sudden street closures. He had cool history and interesting anecdotes to share while never being overbearing, plus he’s a great photographer, to boot. Overall, we are taking positive memories from this tour. You can see so much on a bike tour in such a short amount of time and if you get the right tour guide, you can learn a lot, too. Would just really recommend that Unlimited Biking clean up their customer service.

"Good bikes, shame about the staff"

Overall my family and I enjoyed our day on the bikes, but the experience was let down by the staff’s attitude. We arrived, having booked 4 bikes online, at the same time as a big group of teenagers. The lady outside told (not asked) us to come back in 15 minutes, and another inside told my 70y/o mother to “get out of the way”. Not a nice start to our day. The guy who explained the bikes was very good, but on returning the bikes we were again greeted with a bad/incompetent attitude. Really disappointing. P.s bikes had no horn/bell - not safe

We came up to DC For a few days from NC and took the e-bike night DC monuments tour and it was so much fun. Seeing the monuments at night was a new experience for us. The highlight of the tour was our guide Eric who was very knowledgeable about DC history and all the monuments and was very friendly. I would highly recommend a bike tour through Unlimited Biking.
