"Pleasantly Surprised Despite Negative Reviews"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed August 29, 2024
Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant after reading a lot of negative reviews here. But this review is based on our recent visit on 8/24/24. We showed up right after the park opened at about 10:30am on a Saturday. Parking was painless, albeit pricey at $32. If you get there early-ish, it's not worth it to pay for premium parking. We got regular parking and it was about two rows behind premium, so save your ~$20. We read a lot of reviews about ride closures. The only ride that was closed in the AM was the family raft ride. But that opened up before lunch time and at that point every slide was open and it looked like all of the dry rides were open as well. We rode almost every single water slide and dry ride at the park between 10:30 and 2pm. The longest line we waited in was the family raft ride, and that wait was about 15-20 minutes. The lines were a lot shorter than I had expected. All of the lifeguards on the slides were courteous and seemed to keep everything moving pretty well. We even looped the racing/mat slide multiple times because the wait was only about 5 minutes. We also looped the small rollercoaster half a dozen times because there was no line. Our 6 and 4-year olds loved it. The comments about not letting you on some of the dry rides with wet swimsuit bottoms are accurate. So throw on a pair of shorts and problem solved. The lockers are also very expensive (another reason for the 4-star and not 5-star rating). $40 for the day. We did use it extensively though to store our phones and make multiple sunscreen re-apply stops. We also used it to store dry shorts for the dry rides. It was super convenient. Food was very expensive and not great. This is pretty typical for theme parks. But the $18 nachos were disappointing. Knocking one star off for the prices and quality. But we didn't have to wait at all to order food at about 11:45am by the wave pool. I did see long food lines at other food places and I assumed this was for the folks who purchased the meal deal. We did not. People do swoop up all the shaded spots pretty early so if that's important to you then you may want to get there early. It wasn't crazy hot when we were there so we didn't mind sitting in the sun for lunch. Overall, we had a great day and a fun time here. The negative reviews scared us, but our experience was very positive. Local schools did start the week prior so perhaps the crowds were less than they would be mid-summer.

"Not for special needs"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed August 14, 2024
First and most importantly DO NOT BRING YOUR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD HERE. This place is NOT inclusive at all and DOES NOT follow ADA guidelines. That "autism Center certified" stuff is just a marketing ploy of putting up small signs on rides that give you a sensory number. Well if you or anyone has autism you also know that number would be different for everyone. Let's start, I paid 1k for a cabana, tickets and Abby magic pass. From the start no disabled spaces available. Got to the ticket booth to claim my Abby tickets. The attendant, although very nice, was clueless as to what to do, she did figure it out and this was probably the second to best experience in this park. Finally we get to the "metal detectors" the lady was screaming to move to one side. Seems intelligent...let's just put a cone in front of the closed one? But instead we choose to yell at autistic people. The music is so incredibly loud, that my autistic child is starting to escalate. As a NT adult even I'm getting annoyed. People everywhere, crowded and it's incredibly loud, not a great start. Trying to quickly find our Cabana check in, oh fantastic it's right underneath a speaker. So while my child is holding their ears I'm yelling (not anger but volume) at the cabana girl because we can't hear each other. Then finally I get my bracelet and she says ok it's over there. Over where? Over there. Ok, super thanks! No... didn't know where. So after shuffling through crowds of people and climbing some rocks, we found our cabana. No greet no service no nothing. The only thing we were greeted with was bees, spider webs and spiders. Can't use the fake lock box because of all the hundreds of baby spiders. Isn't this fun! So we go to the playground that's next to Abby's cabanas. To no surprise, all slides in this place are not working. Lifeguard says "oh pump isn't working" '...uh...ok. Left there, went to the lazy river. Not so lazy, it's bumper people with side of acrobats. Went one round with that and bailed out. Btw no special access for cabana guests. It's blocked off. Went to the wave pool. It you ever wondered what a sea of people looks like, that's your chance. To top it off only one side of the wave pool was working. Then we went to the slides. We chose the open yellow slide. Went as a double, obviously. Disaster. Looked fun, seemed fun but was opposite. What you don't see is that once you get there waiting you are repeatedly pounded with water, off we go, 1/4 into it, you get water boarded. There's just no way around it. It's not just a little fun water. My baseball hat that was pinned to my hair flew off, my son's glasses left the building and my left contact followed. The ride was over the moment we hit it. Not fun. lasked the lifeguard if there were any slides that weren't so aggressive. She told me if I go into that store they might have it. Yes, you read that correctly. Went to the smaller more manageable slides. Nope son is too big. (He's a child btw) she argues with me that he was too big. So while other smaller heavier kids can go, it's obviously not a weight or height issue. So mental age doesn't matter. So you're stuck in between waterboarding, denials or just broken. After realizing the water rides were not inclusive, we decided to try the dry rides. Btw don't waste your money on the Abby pass. They don't even check, they let everyone in OR they let everyone in line go first then you. They also don't tell you until you are about to get on the ride that you need to be wearing a shirt. I say that as it also seems to be very selective on who they choose. I did not see that posted anywhere but doesn't mean that doesn't exist. But it was very clear to me the no one got the memo. After the swings and rocket ship ride a few times, said hello to the mice around the rides, and it was just time to go. Yes, there's mice. Quite a few actually. Think about that when you order. This went no way that I wanted or hoped for. I really thought with an autistic character that they'd really tap into that community. Nope. They just jumped on the exploitation train. We tried to make our way to exit again with blaring music and were stopped and couldn't leave. Yes you read that right, you couldn't leave. Of course you could come in though! Security guard says you can't leave because of the parade. The parade that was all the way around at the merry go round. They drive the floats THROUGH THE PARKING LOT, when they are done. But again this was a good 7 min wait to leave with blaring music. Fantastic. I wrote this review not to keep you from going, but to educate you on what to expect. It will not be what you think it will be. Also be aware there is no military discount on anything. Including the 12.99 each 2in figurines. The cost here is insane. But I'd pay anything to have a truly inclusive resort. This isn't it.
