This is the third time we’ve been to the Del and despite some expensive renovations which have improved the hotel and are still on going this is by far our worst experience. The first impression when you arrive is sullen dismissive valet guys and an under staffed check in process. Once we got to our room we had to complain three times about our mouldy fridge and had to insist on speaking to a manager to get a resolution which was a clean fridge and an apology card with some gummy bears foc. We then had guests in an adjacent room who had abandoned their dogs in the evening which barked when we went back to our room for hours. We were offered another room which was better and much appreciated. But our overwhelming impression of the hotel was they were more interested in corporate clients and wedding packages which were prevalent every day of the ten days we were there. Some staff were great others were distant and couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge guests. The gym was also poor and despite asking for a number of machines to be serviced they were never repaired during the remainder of our break. At over $600 per night for ten nights and resort fees /parking on top the experience should be so much better. This hotel is a bit emperors new clothes no one wants to admit its not great which is a real pity because it could and should be superb.

The hotel Del Coronado has undergone a renovation, and the updated rooms in the Victorian part of the hotel are stunning. The overall property is beautiful with an increible beach. It's still under construction, and that can be disruptive with construction noises suddenly happening during breakfast in their restaurant, as an example. But, given the amount of work going on, it actually was pretty invisible.

This hotel was first built in 1887. Many celebrities, royalty, and presidents have stayed there. The architecture and woodwork in the lobby area was fascinating. The Ice House museum was full of historical photos and information. The floral gardens were nice. Parts of the hotel were under 5 million $ renovation. At $500 a night, plus $50 a night parking fee at a garage many steps away from the rooms was not very convenient. Don't forget the extra $50 a night resort fee. I was glad to stay there once, but did not think it was worth the price.

"A Wedding, A Weekend, A Workcation-Adjacent Dream"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5

Let’s be honest: Hotel del Coronado doesn’t need a review. It’s iconic. It’s in postcards. It’s where Marilyn Monroe made blonde bombshell history. But here’s the thing: it also hosted a wedding that became one of the most unexpectedly soul-filling weekends Justin and I have had in a while. We weren’t speaking at this one. No coaching sessions. No late-night keynote edits. This was pure guest mode. But it still deserves a spot on the Workcations map... because when you live a blended life of business and travel, even your “off” days deserve intentional design. The Arrival: Driving up to the Del feels like pulling into a movie set. And maybe it is. You’re greeted by sweeping woodwork, history-soaked architecture, and a scene that’s somehow both luxurious and nostalgic... like Newport meets California sunshine. We checked in for a wedding weekend, just the two of us, and immediately began wondering why we didn’t bring the kids. (Then we remembered: romance.) The rooms vary depending on which part of the property you’re in... historic or modern. We stayed in the original Victorian building which felt appropriately dramatic and slightly haunted, in the best possible way. The Wedding Vibes: Absolutely Magical Beachfront ceremony? Yes. Gorgeous weather? Somehow perfect. An outdoor reception under twinkle lights and palm trees? Chef’s kiss. But the real flex here is the setting... you don’t have to do much when your backdrop is this iconic. Every corner is photogenic. Every turn a new opportunity to whisper “we should come back here.” We grabbed drinks at Sun Deck, enjoyed coffee from ENO Market & Pizzeria (a hidden little gem for a morning bite), and yes, we splurged on Sheerwater’s lobster roll because when at The Del, you go full coastal fantasy. If you do decide to sneak in a little productivity, this place has some incredible nooks. Bring a laptop to the veranda in the morning. Order something bubbly. Pretend you’re writing your novel. Or, you know… finalize that executive team offsite proposal. I won’t judge. Hotel del Coronado isn’t just a hotel. It’s a character. It plays a role in whatever story you’re there to live... romance, retreat, reset, Workcation, or a little of all the above. We came for a wedding. We left feeling like we'd eloped with time itself.

It was our first time ever in San Diego and wanted to come to San Diego's historical staple and stay at this beautiful location. We arrived and the valet was very welcoming and directed us to the front desk. We were there early and our room was not ready, but our check-in person did give us the option to check-in to another room and showed us the floor plan where it was. We were taken aback because this has never been done by any establishments we have visited in the past. We loved that attention by your front desk person. We ended up waiting for the other room and went exploring on the grounds and got acquainted witht he resort in the meantime while waiting for our room. Food and libations were very appealing and tasty at Serea. Service given by Jessie was unmatched with quick attention with the service. We were there to celebrate my birthday and celebrated a few drinks and apps in the evening at the bar at Serea and Anthony, the bartender, took great care of us. We did try to go back for Sunday brunch but were told that we needed to wait for an hour and a half. We did not know we needed reservations, but that was fine we went to the bar since they offer the same menu. It was busy and I have to appreciate how the manager jumped in to help out and the barback Lupita was on task with assisting the manager and the bartender. Other nights we would make our way to Babcock's and score a table and listen to live music. Jamie U and Pepe took great care and offered great suggestions. Since we were not from the area we took advantage of the concierge and Anthony guided us where to go visit and where to have a great dining experience outside of the resort. We purchased zoo tickets through him as well, which made things so much easier when arriving at the zoo. I also have to commend the cleaning staff. I had aske them in passing if there was an iron and ironing board we could request and they told me that I would have to request it. When I arrived back to the room hours later, they had already the items in when they cleaned the room. So if everything was great? Why the 3 stars? There was an incident that involved the indiscretion of a server on the sundeck. That indiscretion led to unnecessary calamity and grief. I did reach out to the Food and Beverage manager with evidence of the indiscretion, gave them a few days, they never responded. I then forwarded the message to the General Manager, Marco Tabet, that is when I got a response from "Tipi" the Food and Beverage director. I would love to go back when the remodeling is all finished but with what happened, I don't know if we could chance it anymore. One should be able to feel safe when being away from home at said location. At this point, we just feel as though we were swept under the rug and not cared about finding anyone accountable.
