"Seems like a scam closing the park early!"

Visited Sandcastle on 8/31/2024. We arrived at the park at noon, it opened at 11am. We knew there was rain in the forecast. Around 12:45 it rained briefly and at the end you could hear a bit of thunder. Obviously, rides were temporary closed. At 1pm we noticed about 12 lifeguards in line for food. Seemed like an odd sight. There were not many lifeguards working that day, several slides were closed including the lazy river. At 1:22pm an announcement was made the park would close at 2pm due to inclement weather. At this point, the rain had passed, the sun was shining, and the radar showed the rain was moving out of the area. Sandcastle claimed corporate made the call due to lightning. They said there is a 20 mile radius for lightning. Again, you could see on the radar the rain had moved passed the park and you can even see the lightning strikes. It also showed the weather looked clear for the next couple hours. The park is only open until 6pm. I think it is important to note that attendance seemed very low. Another important note, none of the local pools closed and the Pitt football game was at the same time and was played with no issue. We paid $40 (two cars) for parking, $17 for a locker, and then tickets to the park ($30 per ticket). We did receive tickets to use next season, but no refund or voucher for parking or lockers. We were there for one hour. The company that owns Sandcastle also owns Kennywood. We had this exact thing happen to us at Kennywood in June. Attendance was really low the day we were there and the radar showed it might storm in the afternoon. They closed the park while the sun was still shining. The "storm" shifted and Kennywood never got any inclement weather that afternoon/evening. Is it a coincidence this happened two different times this summer at parks owned by the same company? It seems like a scam that they charge these ancillary charges that are non-refundable, they close their facilities early and send all the employees home, and then provide a "rain check" so you can come back and spend more money on a busier day. The park itself was ok for the short time. As I noted, several slides including the lazy river were not open because they had a shortage of workers. Several of the food locations were also closed. It looks a little rundown, but not awful. The two slides we rode were fun. Potato Patch fries were good. Probably the highlight of the day. Could be a fun day, but be aware if there is any potential of rain in the forecast.

They never did this ever limit the amount of one time on lazy river . You could go several times now it’s one time only. They block you off by standing . Instead they say no staff and close cliff hangers. This is a waste of a salary to block people . Instead open cliff hangers with these people .

"Lifeguard? Or dangerous life guards"

The visit started pretty pleasant as it was very hot an humid out and this was a very good relief, well soo we thought, as my wife was swimming at the wave pool a lifeguard who “saw someone in need of help” jumped right on her. Putting her in more danger than anyone else in the pool. A few minutes later the same life guard did it to another person in the same exact way. If this is the way sandcastle express concern by putting other guests in harms away they really shouldn’t be in business. It’s very unfortunate we had to leave early due to my wife’s head throbbing and her not feeling well. Hopefully it goes away without a hospital visit courtesy of sandcastle

A really great water park. Especially on a hot sunny day. We spent over 6 hours and the day flew by. The Mon tsunami wave park and lazy river are favorites. Their is a shortage of lawn chairs. To get one get there early . besides the shortage of lawn chairs and long lines. it's a great experience for a hot day.

Beautiful park with nice upgrades, including landscaping (kids do nice job keeping it clean) and new signs. Fun rides. But I must complain about one thing-- charging $20/$25 for parking?! Really???
