"Complete rip off - we won’t be back"

I had seen this show before in the early 2000’s and I recall more action, including more drums & 2 very fit native young men that would climb coconut trees as part of the show. It has been over 20 years since I’ve been back & was excited to show my son “the best luau on Maui”. The grounds are beautiful, but as for the show and entertainment itself, to say this was a disappointment would be an understatement.. my son didn’t know any better since he had never been. All of the action of the show that I recall that made this show spectacular is now gone & now very slow moving & boring. Even though we all wanted to leave, we decided to stay in hopes we would see more action, but nope. And no, there isn’t 2 solid hours of show/action/dancing. The dancers were hardly on stage at all, maybe 20% of the time. The rest of the time is waiting and waiting and waiting, including waiting for the crappy food (because it is brought out in courses) . A little over $800 for a family of 3 and they still charged us $50 extra for a family photo. Ridiculous!! Whomever the chef, choreographer and the one in charge of ticket pricing for this event needs to be fired. There needs to be WAY more action, especially drums. The pricing for this is more expensive than a Cirque de Soleli show in Vegas and not even CLOSE to being as captivating & entertaining. What a complete waste of money for a non traditional experience, mediocre food and cheap alcohol drinks. Overly expensive and a rip off. The king at the end with the fire was the highlight but overall the experience was poor, especially for $275 per adult. Honestly, don’t waste your money here a cheaper luau will be much better with lots more show. We kept wandering off listening to the other luau where it sounded like everyone was getting their money’s worth. We will not ever be back to this one.

We went to the Grand Wailea Luau on Sunday March 2, 2025. We were told we would not be at the normal venue. We would be seated be hind the Chapel. Ok. So, we checked in and got seated at our table. First of all. This was obviously a make shift stage. The costumes and pageantry that was shown on their website was no where to be seen. People were walking through continuously on the walking path during the show. Also people were just walking down and sitting on the lawn and watching the show for free. That I paid $ 335 each for my wife and I. The breaking point for me was when one of the hotel employees drove a golf cart through, on the path, when the shiw.was going on. The performers we so so. The food was very good. However for what I spent on what was supposed to be a fabulous Luau. I fell horribly ripped off! This was a 2rd rate performance, with a high school stage set up. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!! You can go to any Luau and get good.food. But, this.was billed as a top notch show and stage and it was anything but that!

I'm not a foodie. But I am giving this luau a one star review mainly because of how bad the food and drinks were. I figured they were going to be really good since this luau was so expensive compared to others . I guess it was just costly because of being at the Grand Wailea. If the guests who stay there are getting this same quality of food and drinks, I'd be amazed. The Mai Tai I tried tasted like the cheap store brand and the Pina colada I tried tasted like something in it had gone bad. The only food I liked was the poke and the macaroni salad ( which I don't usually like) Everything else I tried tasted bland or bad. I went to a luau two years ago that was held at a plantation nearby and the food and drinks were fantastic. It was a third of the price of this one and had a longer dance show. This one had a lot of music but not that much dancing. I really wish I had picked any other luau than this one or just gone to a nice dinner at a nice restaurant with nice views.
