Criss Angel MINDFREAK in Las Vegas, NV

the 2000s ended. the 2010s happened. and now we're all stuck in the horrifying future. unless you step inside the chris angel mindfreak theatre in las vegas nevada. then, within these walls, you will be transported to a simpler time, where an unyet grey haired obama was but a senator with a twinkle in his eye. chris is in his late fifties now and beneath his jet black hair dye and hot topic mannequin clothes he moves around with the same fluidity as robert deniro in the irishman. but he's determined to convince you that no time has passed at all since his tv show on A&E ended in 2010. it reminded me a lot of those videos of britney spears dancing around her house in her underwear holding knives but it's happening on a stage in front of an audience. they play a bunch of songs that sound like rob zombie songs but chris angel is singing them. there's a thirty minute section of the show where our titular mind freak invites a handful of women on stage and publicly sexually harasses them like a man who's blissfully unaware that #metoo will happen. everything is designed to appeal to the sensibilities of someone for whom 9/11 is a very recent memory. chris angel appears to be self aware of how ridiculous his brand is and is fully embracing it. i hope. there's an extremely unnecessary amount of pyrotechnics. there are more dance routines and explosions than actual magic. it closes with a long interpretive dance that mr. angel dedicates to "all the children who suffer from horrible diseases." he does the robot while pictures of children whove died of cancer appear on the screen behind him. then he does one last trick which is for "the troops". there's a hype man who comes on stage sometimes to hype you up. chris floats around a lot and does basically two other tricks aside from that. i believe this show single handedly inspired jared letos joker. it was way too loud and there were so many lasers and lights and sexy dancing it gave me stimulation overload on a level usually only reserved for autistic children in a rainforest cafe when the simulated rainstorm comes on.

What a waste of money! His show seemed less about magic, more about his life, his charity and a sermon about life. If I wanted to hear the latter, I would've bought tickets to Echardt Tolle or Deepak Chopra. Many of his jokes were distasteful, and he is no stand-up comedian for sure. Would've gone to a comedy show for that if that's what I'd wanted. He literally wasted our 2 hours and a bunch of $$. I do NOT recommend this show in its current form. More respect for your audience, Mr. Angel!
