Description

Located on the historic and private Manchac Swamp, Cajun Pride Swamp Tours offers an unforgettable swamp boat eco-tour in the heart of Louisiana’s picturesque bayous and swampland. Just a short distance from New Orleans, this privately-owned wildlife refuge offers the opportunity to journey back to the early days of the Louisiana Bayou and swamp explorations. For many years people have traveled extensively to locate a unique and exciting adventure exploring Louisiana's backcountry with its meandering bayous and swamps that you can only experience here.

Being on a privately owned swamp ensures that your narrated tour will not be disturbed by other boats. The tours are led by Cajun boat captains who have grown up in the Bayous of South Louisiana. With their charming accents and humorous storytelling, they will guide you through the enchanting beauty of moss-draped cypress trees, introducing you to the captivating world of American alligators and abundant wildlife.

Swamp creatures see the boats daily and recognize them as part of their normal environment. Unafraid and responsive to their boat captain's call, they peek out from underbrush and between moss-draped trees and shrubs, frequently coming directly to the boat. In the safety and comfort of the boat, you can actually come within a few feet of jumping alligators.

As your boat drifts through the waterways, you will learn about the Louisiana Wetlands, the swamp inhabitants, particularly the life and habits of the American Alligator, and the unique history of the Cajun town of Frenier within the Manchac Swamp.

"Unpleasant captain; kitschy tour"

Our boat captain Dustin spent the time shouting through the speakers (calling the raccoons to him? He was shouting “come out, here, come on!” or along those lines), told unkind jokes about his wife and daughter and women in general, used the r-word, and overall made this an unpleasant experience. The tour was very kitschy; about a third of the time was Dustin shouting to — then feeding marshmallows to — raccoons on shore. This doesn’t seem good for the wildlife; it felt invasive and wasn’t interesting. The small part of the time when Dustin was talking about the swamp was interesting, but it was a small section and was overshadowed by him joking and talking nonsense. I was uncomfortable and wished we could’ve appreciated the swamp without his shouting through speakers. We did see a lot of gators, so that was cool, but, again, feeding them seems bad. I’d avoid Cajun Pride Swamp Tours.

I went to Cajun as part of a package deal to see Oak Alley and the swamp but it was such a good time I wanted to write a review. This place is beautiful and the wildlife is amazing! Our captain was hilarious and the work they're doing with the alligator population is so cool. Highly recommend!
