"Beautiful hotel, mediocre experience"

The Skirvin is a beautiful hotel- the exterior and lobby have so much charm. First impression wasn’t great. The check-in staff were rude, which was surprising as I’ve not encountered that at other Hiltons. The rooms were fine- dated and showed the age of the hotel. The beds were very comfy. We had a street view looking out at The Rolex store, and businesses still had Christmas lights up. Our room didn’t have a mini-fridge- if you want one you’ll have to reserve a room with one. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but had room service (which was good). We’re guessing there were staffing shortages because it took longer to get our food than they told us. Then nobody picked up our tray, which sat outside our room for two days (despite letting them know it was there). I’ve never seen that happen. The gym was large and had a variety of equipment and our daughter enjoyed the pool. We always had both to ourselves. We were within walking distance of the Memorial and took daily walks. We didn’t get a chance to go to the bar but it looked like it had good crowds.

"Exceptional Staff and Service!"

I selected The Skirvin Hilton as a way to wind down after a business trip in Lawton, OK. I had an early morning flight the next day and wanted to be closer to the airport so I would not have to drive for an hour at 4am. Upon arriving at check-in, there was a mixup with my reservation - however the staff worked together as a team to resolve. The staff - Layne Weens, Matthew Horn and Skyler Tatum - worked expeditiously to make sure I was placed in my Rotunda Suite. Their professionalism and desire to accommodate me must be acknowledged with high accolades. (Later in the evening, I stopped by and told Matthew and Layne: I think Ghost Effie caused the confusion 😂) The Bar and Bartenders: Wes and Mike were exceptional bartenders and I love their seasonal blazers that are a part of their Hilton uniforms! Wes suggested I try one of the local craft beers and it was a great recommendation. * There was a loud and inconsiderate patron at the bar who used foul language quite often. The manner in which Wes approached and ‘guided’ him to be mindful and respectful of the other guests was ‘top notch’. Mike kept the others patrons distracted from the inconsiderate guy by engaging in conversations and informing us of the updates on renovations, drink preferences, etc. They created a pleasant environment simply by desiring respect for others. Hotel was clean and the Rotunda Suite was perfect! Spacious with enough seating for 5-6 adults. Looking forward to visiting after renovations are completed. Tolbert Travel Connection

"Great trip, below average hotel stay"

We’ve stayed here regularly for the past 7-8 years, not often, but 1-3 times per year, as well as having our 25th anniversary party catered and hosted by them in June of 2022. We have always enjoyed the decor and amenities, and the staff always made us feel at home. Our recent stay was different, and heartbreaking, especially since the stay totaled close to $700 for two nights. In March of 2024, I used the Hilton Honors app to check in, only to find out our room had been assigned to someone else. This time, I called two days prior to check in and was assigned the requested room. I called again the day of arrival, and this was confirmed. Upon arrival, there was no record of any of this. Twice in two years my check in was messed up. I was not happy, and although apologies and actions taken helped, it tainted our much anticipated weekend date. The manager was as accommodating as possible, but the bottom line is this hotel has allowed corporate minded (cheapskate) decisions to ruin a good thing. Attention to detail is missing, i.e. no coffee in the lobby, no water offered by valet, trash left in the hallways by housekeeping, no creamer in the in-room coffee bar (was told they were out) and I was not booked in the room I reserved and was told twice it was reserved. Also, although the remodeling may be affecting things, it should not be an excuse for the lack of service. They also remodeled the dining room, and while it is very nice, we miss the old mosaic treatments. Overall, it has gone downhill, and we will be exploring other options for our next trip to OKC.

"Terrible Wedding Experience"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5

Do not plan your wedding at the Skirvin. I grew up in the area and this was my daughter's dream venue. My daughter was engaged for 18 months and we signed our contract over a year in advance. We were told that the Venetian Room would be remodeled along with many other things that never happened. Our original wedding coordinator quit responding to any correspondence. We continued to leave messages and just decided to go to the Skirvin directly. When we went to the front desk we were told that our original coordinator was no longer employed there. We then met with another coordinator. When we could not get a response from this coordinator, we were once again told that she had resigned. From the beginning our contract was very vague. We definitely should not have signed it but did so in good faith. Everything was a struggle! Prices continued to fluctuate, even though we were told that they had to honor the original contract. We reserved a block of rooms. If the rooms were booked on the toll free number for the Skirvin or Hilton, they would not honor the block rate or credit our block. Of course, more money was owed if the block wasn't full. I never once saw our coordinator at our event. Even when we were stuck in the elevator. The Skirvin didn't respond to our frantic calls. I had to call 911. Luckily the Oklahoma City Fire Department got us out in time! I never saw the coordinator when my nephew fell down the stairs because the staff had spilled ice in the stairwell. We were promised the use of hurricane centerpieces. They were so dirty and caked in wax that we had to purchase 80 vases the day of the wedding. Most of our goodie bags for our guests were not given out. I went to the front desk 3 different times to ask them to notate it in the computer or something. They gave them back to us at checkout. Our room was never cleaned once we checked in. The food trays and champagne bottles sat in the hallway for two days. Our heater would not go off. The room was a sauna. We had some family check in and when they got to their room it was under construction. They went to the front desk and were told that the hotel was sold out. Our hors d'oeuvres that we had chosen to be passed, were not passed. The vegetables that were supposed to be hot in the buffet line were passed cold. Who wants to eat cold asparagus and bacon?! One last thing..... If they tell you hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and water are complimentary that means that they won't have it or it will be $3800. Sadly, I could go on and on. I would look elsewhere. Best of luck.
