I dont even know what to say about this experience........ Let me preface by saying, I had a great time with the dear company I was with. But, with that aside, my visit was --- interesting. I will also say that all of the staff that I interacted with were mostly friendly except at the end of my visit here. So they have that going for them. I visited this park on Indigenous Peoples' Day/Columbus Day. Our plan was to ride the rides during the day and to go to the Haunted Mazes for Fright Fest which started at 5pm. The total cost I paid for two tickets for this was 120 dollars. Keep that in mind, it's important later..... The weather was horrendous- very cold and raining the entire time. No fault of the park of course... So, due to the weather or understaffing???- many things were closed, the park was like a ghost town. I'd say that probably 3/4 of the park was closed- sections closed off- rides closed- restaurants closed- perhaps this late in the season they didn't have staffing? Or because of the weather?? I'm not sure... but rides were covered with plastic sheeting, or just simply no attendants at them. We went into an open store- there wasn't anyone working there, so couldn't buy merchandise. Ok, so- we get through the day, just walking around aimlessly because the rides and restaurants aren't open..... so then in the back of the park we find a restaurant that is open, and we got a chicken nugget meal which came with fries and was $20.00. Wayyy too much, even Disney's chicken nuggets are 12.99. Shout out to the lady at the hay maze in the big tan hat, she was super friendly and engaging in what was an honestly awful day so far. Ok so, we are sitting there in the restaurant sharing one chicken nugget meal between the two of us..... and an announcement comes over the loudspeaker that Fright Fest/Haunted Mazes are cancelled and that the park is closing early so that everyone needs to be out by 5pm. Ok, totally understandable with the weather issue. I go to Guest Relations to get a refund of at least the Haunted Maze tickets- since it has now been cancelled, and the ticket attendant was super rude and aggravated almost..... like how dare I even ask for a refund for this cancelled event. He refunds the ticket seller that I bought the tickets from (Military) and the money goes back to them and not to me. So now, I'm like- you're going to have to refund me for the tickets, that money is just going to get absorbed by them and not get back to me. He said, there is nothing I can do- you're going to have to reach out to them to try to get your money back. So now, I have to do more work to get my tickets refunded. I contacted the ticket agent- no response back. If I don't get my money back, I'm going to be pretty mad. So, I'm out 50 dollars, no event for my kid, soaked, freezing and - should -in actuality- get refunded the 70 dollars for the day tickets because 3/4 of the park was closed. This day should have cost me a rainy 20.00 for 4 chicken nuggets and that is it. And even that is too much. I tried to make the best of it but the refund issue really was a lesson to the Guest Relations on how not to provide customer service. I had high hopes for this first visit, but the weather wasn't on my side. Even thought the weather wasn't on my side- Six Flags could have refunded me or given me a return certificate for another visit since they cancelled Fright Fest and I paid for it. I would have come back next year maybe for a summer visit when things were more staffed and open for experiencing.

"Stay away from cashless card!"

My family bought a season pass. I was disappointed to know that they took out the Ferris Wheel and the swing ride that was replaced with a picnic table area that no one uses. There aren't very many local employees but internationals. Maybe it's cheaper? Stay away from the cashless card that you buy through a vending machine. My daughter put $20 on 2 different cards. Aug. 7th and another one a week later. She didn't get to use them because we were rushed both days to get as many rides in as possible. This is Labor Day. She had money stolen off of them. $15 off one and $7 off the other. She was so upset, (even though I offered to give her the money she lost, she didn't want to ride anymore rides.) Awful. Stay away from them. I'm wondering if the company is taking a fee per week. I tried calling customer service, but they were closed today? 🤔 Why would the park be open but the customer service be closed. Non-existence maybe? On a good note, the water is clean (though badly needs painting) and there are lots of lifeguards. There's a new roller coaster.

"Miss the Great Escape I remember…"

Extremely run down version of the place I adored 25 years ago. Half of the rides were closed due to lack of staffing. That says a lot about the area, no local employees anymore, all from overseas on work visas. The entire place needs a coat of paint, everything was faded, hasn’t seen paint in years. Virtually no attention to detail, we did not find a single self serve soda machine in the park that had ice. We asked the workers at the food shops and they said it “wasn’t their job” to refill the ice. I fire people for that response to a customer. Throughout the day I saw zero attention to any details at all. The shows? - none!! Even the log flume, my greatest memory of the park from years ago was closed. Food was more overpriced than the expected overprice. I worry if Six Flags can not turn this ship around, Great Escape won’t be around much longer.

The Great Escape used to be the place to go back in the 80's and 90's. Ever since Six Flags bought it, it has gone downhill and is overpriced. To make it worth it, I would suggest buying a season pass. With the season pass you also get free parking and discounts on food. You can bring your own clear water bottles into the park which helps with costs as well! Many people I know also bring in their own snacks as security makes no efforts to check backpacks. Buy the season pass, eat lunch before you go to the park and bring your own water. If you do this, you will enjoy your time much more.

"You'll love Great Escape... if you love getting gouged!"

35 bucks just for parking. $42 gets you into the park. You can pluck down an additional $65 for a ‘Fast Pass’ that lets you skip some lines on some rides. And by some rides, I mean a half dozen rides and attractions were closed in August – including the Steamin’ Demon, Raging River, Typhoon Twister, Bamboo Shoots… Then there’s the food… a crappy cheese slice is – $16 at Paradise Pizza. My head exploded so I couldn’t tell you the cost of other items on their limited Price Gouging menu. My wife also brought some quarters for a locker rental. Turns out, we needed 64 – or 16 dollars. On positive note, you can drop some cold hard cash at one of the carnival games and possibly leave with an oversized chili pepper prize to remind you of the fiscal heartburn you experienced at the Great Escape! Bring a wheelbarrow of $$$, take out a second mortgage, or just sell one of your kids! Talk about corporate gouging! Six Flags 2024 corporate earnings report is gonna be epic.
