"The worst stay we've ever had"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed February 27, 2025 NEW
This was the absolute worst stay I've had in my adult life, possibly ever. We're Diamond members so we tend to stay at Hiltons. The trip started with ants coming all over our room because we had a box of cereal. The front desk folks didn't care and said it happens if there's food. This has never happened to us, much less due to a closed box of cereal. We moved rooms (to the one next door) and the A/C wouldn't turn off, the bathroom door was broken and wouldn't close, the alarm clock was missing the top so you couldn't set it, the TV didn't work and the phone was missing the front desk button (probably because they got so many calls about the room). It was horrific. The hotel also ran out of pool towels every day (there are only like 10-12 pool chairs and the same number of people so they clearly don't want to pay for towels) and they messed up our Diamond benefits and charged us extra. Again, never an apology or even an effort to correct anything. They just don't care there. I'd like to specifically call out Tom and Amy (the manager) for their abysmal treatment. We asked for a manager and we were always told Amy was in a meeting... I really feel sorry for you if you have to stay here.

"One of the best beach front hotel on the east side of Kauai"

One of the best beach front hotel on the east side of Kauai , Lydgate beach / state park , a favorite spot for kids and family with enclosed rock pond , playground and walking path within half a mile from the hotel . The hotel itself need some updates for the rooms and specially the old style door lock ( NO SAFE IN THE ROOM ) . There are plenty of food options in the area and Coconut Marketplace less than two miles away . I like to thx Cina , Amy and Bree for all the extra help during our stay .

"It’s actually a very nice hotel"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed February 10, 2025
I was concerned after reading some of the recent reviews but can honestly say we had a great time. We usually stay at HGV properties but was booked. Sure the hotel could use a few updates (mainly new carpet in the hallways and paint/scuff mark/wear & tear kind of things). But our ocean-front room was clean, very quiet and spacious. (We stayed in the hotel not the villas) The food was excellent. Many spots to enjoy the pool and spectacular views. A quick walk across the lawn and you’re on the beach. And above all - a VERY friendly and helpful staff. Team couldn’t be more kind and resourceful from front desk to servers to the especially kind housekeeping staff. Our housekeeper was Nita and she greeted us each day with a sweet Aloha and helped with each request. We never had an issue with parking in the lot, but it did fill up in the evening. We were busy and didn’t book the onsite Fire Show. Ukulele and lei making classes looked popular. Restaurants onsite. Great central location with MANY nearby restaurants. Tip the rooms don’t have lanais but if you stay on the main floor you do have sliding glass doors and two patio chairs. We preferred to be up for a better view. We are picky so I wouldn’t give a positive review if it wasn’t true!

"A good stay"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed February 09, 2025
I was a little apprehensive to book this hotel because some of the reviews but I genuinely had a good stay here. I was put in a cottage and really liked being able to walk out through the park and onto the beach. Like any hotel, I checked for any bugs and didn’t see anything. There was one dead bug I saw on the floor as I was leaving but that’s just because Kaua’i is a tropical island. I don’t blame the hotel for that. It shows that they really try to make the experience special here and that’s something I really appreciated. I can’t speak for the hotel rooms but the cottages are worth it. The reason it’s not 5/5 is because it’s a little dated. Like it could use some updates here and there but nothing substantial that made my stay any less enjoyable. Also for those saying they’re scamming with the resort fee, that is something so normal. I think I’ve always paid some sort of fee at check in. I had a really nice experience.

"substandard for a HIlton Garden Inn at these rates."
TripAdvisor user rating 2.0 out of 5
Reviewed February 01, 2025
Hilton Gold Member that has stayed at multiple Hilton Garden Inns (including Waikiki). Stayed in a King Bed Ocean view in January, 2025. unfortunately, this Hilton Garden Inn falls below the standard of the brand and I don't feel is worth the pricing or resort fees that they charge. Desperately needs renovation. Other reviews complain about the insect issues, which is fairly common for Hawaiian hotels so not surprising or a big deal. The bathroom, console, and bed side tables had small insect/ants. The large mini-fridge and microwave are a nice feature (and where kept food to avoid the insects). The view from the room facing (the park mostly) and the ocean a little bit. the lobby was nice and appreciate the complimentary coffee. The cleaning crew were ever present and did a good job of keeping this aging location clean. The bed was fine, shower was small. Here are the reasons why this fell below the standard of a HIlton Garden Inn: (1) there was no safe in the room. this is an odd choice by Hilton management; (2) the air conditioning could never go below 70 degrees. The room was always warm, and you can tell that they intentionally set up the system this way. If you run warm, and you need a cold sleep, this is not the place for you.; (3) their self-serve market machine didn't work, it would not accept the room details and there were items that did not have skus.; (4) For whatever reason, hilton credits kept dropping off the account, including on the final tab. Staff should not have to be reminded 4 times that you are overcharged. Keep a sharp eye on your bill at this location; (5) parking fee. Why? This seems to be new in 2024 as you can see other reviewers omit it.; (6) The resort fees are obnxious for the pool, which looks like a 1970's apartment complex pool. Stayed at another resort during this rainy period and people were always in the water despite the weather. During my stay, there was not one person ever in the pool. The manager here should be embarrassed for charging the exorbitant resort fee for the amenities. Good location on East Side, which is a good point to go both North and South. Lydgate beach in walking distance is great (and had ample parking). The exit to the main road can be intimidating to nervous drivers, especially with construction everywhere in January, 2025. Overall, agree with another reviewer: this is a (nice) motel but substandard for Hilton Garden Inn. Will not stay at this Hilton hotel again for these prices or without renovation.
