"Great Staff - Clean Hotel - Convenient to Houston Medical Center"
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5

Was there for a week to help my mother and stepfather settle in for a long-term stay for cancer treatment at MD Anderson. The staff was friendly and accommodating, particularly Alejandra who helped set us into the right room and was very assuring and comforting during this difficult time. The rooms are comfortable, the location and shuttle bus make it a great place to stay if you need access to the medical center. The shuttle does not run on weekends and the TV has limited channels and no streaming (if that’s important to you). Hotel is clean, staff is very helpful, food at breakfast and dinner is decent.

The pillows are the fluffiest ever. My Fiancée loves the cookies but most important, All the staff are amazing. I want to give a big shout out to Rowdy who carried us back and forth to MD. He goes above and beyond his job. Maria and her husband, at breakfast are absolutely amazing. Makes you feel like family and shows so much love towards me and all the guests. I have been going here for 4 yrs, so yes I know some of the staff. Hilton has the very best employees in Rowdy and Maria. It feels good to know you are so well taken care of when you have to be in Houston for Cancer. We Love Doubletree Hilton. Thank you Kristy Moss

"Egregious fees, charges, and policies make this place look bad"
TripAdvisor user rating 3.0 out of 5
Reviewed October 04, 2024
I’ve stayed in this place before years back wearing the Holiday Inn Brand. Double Tree has had it for some time now, and the place is nice enough. They have a parking problem in that there isn’t enough, leaving me afraid to leave at night fearing I won’t find a place when I get back. When I first considered this place I didn’t know they have decided to gouge the customer with early check-in, and check-out fees. My world is very dynamic, and I am not going to be penalized because others changed my plans. The $75 early check-out fee is nothing more than greed, and gouging the unsuspecting customer. There are plenty places to stay without such outrageous policies. When they have un-sold inventory, to charge the customer an early check-in fee is equally egregious. Historically the good brands never even thought about charging someone an early check-in fee, and they should not when it’s not increasing their cost. They should be grateful to have the room sold for the next night. This will become a new process for me to check on these things before making any reservation. The beds/towels/sheets were all in good order, even though they were stingy with the towels in a two-room suite. They included only two bath towels, and two sets of other towels, when they should equip the room for 4. The HVAC was in good working and quiet order, and both televisions working properly. The furniture in the room looked good, showing no signs of wear. I didn’t try the two-burner range top, but the microwave and refrigerator were working fine. When I first called to inquire about these charges, the person on the desk was rather unprofessional about the matter. Someone different actually checked me in, and didn’t give me such a hard time about needing the room early. They had a bar and full restaurant running in the evening, even though the restaurant didn’t have any customers. They made me a sandwich and salad, which were both fresh and tasty. I think they had one person on duty waiting tables, and being chef at the same time. I didn’t buy anything from the bar, but they did close early. This building is old, but has been kept current as best they can, but it doesn’t have enough wall outlets for today’s needs. In the halls are cover plates where wall sconces once lived. The elevator buttons cancel without calling an elevator quite often. Their network ran just fine at 10 MBPS, and it was easy to connect. The front of the building is two colors where they have painted part of it, and left the other part with older paint. I didn’t bring up any of these problems to the staff, because I know they have no power to change it. This will be my last stay, because there are so many other properties around there that have not adopted this attitude toward the customer. In any business some parts of it are expedted to be complimentary, and early check-out falls into this category. Posted in the elevator is a “no parties” policy that is very overbearing, and they should not have any authority to make rules like that as long as a guest is not disturbing other guests. The policy goes well beyond a bunch of rowdy drunks making too much noise. This building faces Holcomb street rather than Main St as it’s address indicates. It would be an extreme need before I stayed at this property again.
