"Beautiful Hawai’i."

We stayed for 5 nights, and to cut to the chase, I would stay here again if I was visiting the big Island. For the most part the staff were very good, and management was quick to help with any issues that come up. It’s not a huge resort, so there is basically one main restaurant, which was very good. The 2 shopping plazas that were directly across the road, and directly beside the resort offered many additional options, plus you can walk to Lava Lava Beach club right next door as well. The area is great, the rooms nice, kept clean, beautiful views. We had much fun, my 8 yr old daughter loved the slide and the pools.

"Wish the breakfast were more vegan friendly"

Front desk, bellhops, concierge, pool staff, breakfast servers, pretty much all staff were hospitality oriented and good at their jobs. (Thank you Matthew for getting us a last minute sunset view restaurant reservation on a special occasion.) The only negative experience we had was with kitchen staff at the breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet items were not correctly labeled with known allergens and the staff at the buffet kind of threw up their hands. We asked questions about certain food items and pointed out that things weren’t labeled correctly. Five days later, no changes were made. It did not give us much confidence in the kitchen and was what prevented us from having dinner at the restaurant. In general, the service outshined the building. It is showing some age and I hope it’s on Marriott’s remodel list.

"Amazing staff and employees at a dated resort"

This is a dated property. The rooms are average hotel rooms. The pool areas are nice with plenty of chairs to choose from. If you are patient some of the sought after areas open up and you can move in, otherwise you’ll need to get out to the chairs early to get your pick. People had chairs blocked out by 630am many mornings while we were there. The staff were all amazing! Super friendly and welcoming. Everyone made us feel as part of their family! The dining was pricey, but we had the best meal of our trip while on property. The ice machine went out on our floor, while we were sharing that information with our server (Makayla, probably spelled wrong) she offered to get us a ziplock bag of ice. The next thing we know is she has a decent sized vacuum sealed bag of ice for us. Super awesome of her to do that for us! That ice lasted two days for us! Another great experience was with the food manager. We were a little confused with their discount card and where we could use it. He treated my wife to a complimentary coffee. What the property lacks is made up for by the amazing staff!

"Checked a box, but lot to be desired"

This was a tough review for me to write because there are a lot of great things about this Marriott property, but the property needs some significant work and updates. It does appear the property is going through some major construction updates which is a good sign, but the rooms and many parts of the resort fell short of being able to highly recommend staying here. The wear and tear seen in the rooms, hallways, etc was not a good look for a property that markets itself as a nice resort. We did appreciate the location and walked to several of the shopping options nearby. Hopefully Marriott is in the process of renovating the property. It was a great vacation to the Big Island and our stay was part of a package booked through Costco travel, but after seeing first hand how tired the property was, it’s hard to make a solid recommendation for this hotel.
