"The perfect stay!"

Yassin was extra nice, took the time to show me how to use the elevators when I was struggling. He always had a smile and always talked to me. I also notice how kind and helpful he was to anyone that needed help. Greg in the restaurant was also very kind. We always made sure he was our server. The smiles, and service that Greg provided were above and beyond and made us feel very welcomed. Thank you to all the employees we met. All were very kind and helpful. Yassin and Greg stand out because I dealt with them both everyday. Thank-you for the perfect stay. We will be back and we will stay at Tempo by Hilton!

"Tempo was a one and done for us"

This was our first stay at a Tempo hotel, and based on this experience, we’re unlikely to stay at another one. Management is not particularly generous to Diamond members. Their blanket policy is a one-category upgrade. Through the chat, a guest services team member, Nicole, charged me $120 per night for an upgrade to a high floor corner room. The price was slightly higher than the offer in the upgrade e-mail, but Nicole explained that she would guarantee me the upgrade at that time as opposed to waiting to see if the room was still available at check-in. While the hotel has a Broadway address, the entrance is located near the corner of 47th & 7th. You take an elevator from the street level to the “sky lobby,” as they call it, on the 11th floor. You then use a separate bank of elevators to get to your room. To the hotel’s credit, there were at least nine elevators in total, but it was a cumbersome process to have to take two separate elevators to get to the street. You also have to select your floor first on the keypad and wave your key card to prove that you are a guest, but I prefer that method to reaching over people in a crowded elevator. Based on the New York property, this Hilton hotel brand is fairly austere. They describe themselves as having a “rhythm of life” ethos, which from my perspective translated into a strange and unsuccessful hybrid of luxury and no-frills. You won’t find any artwork anywhere. The rooms are so small that there isn’t much wall space on which artwork could be hung in any case. There are no bottles of waters in the room and instead, guests are encouraged to go to a filtration dock located on every third floor. Likewise, there are no pens or paper, so I was unable to write a note to housekeeping to confirm that the money I left was for her tip, but I guess she figured it out, since she took it. For such a big hotel, the fitness center had only three treadmills. The restaurant was insanely expensive. A dinner consisting of a cheese board, soba noodle salad, cheeseburger, Coke (no refills provided), a glass of the cheapest red wine, and a small slice of cheesecake cost $170. The server spent most of his time standing against the wall, talking to another server, to the point where I needed to walk over to the entrance podium to ask a manager to have my check delivered. Breakfast consists only of a grab-and-go option, bodega-style, and while you can eat your food at a table in the restaurant, there is no waiter service. It must be said that while extremely small, the corner room, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, provided extraordinary views of Times Square. While it would have been nice to receive this upgrade on a complimentary basis, it was worth the $120. It was also impressive how the blinds automatically opened as you enter the room, revealing the expansive view in a most dramatic manner. That being said, even on the 41st floor, we could hear some of the buskers from the street. The shower was unexpectedly enormous, though it was difficult to understand why the towels of this fairly new hotel were so threadbare. This was our first time staying in Times Square, and we chose it for the fun and convenience of seeing a show at the Palace Theatre, whose entrance is immediately adjacent to the hotel’s entrance, and then hopping on elevator (well, two in this case) and going right to our room. In the end, neither the location nor this Hilton brand was to our liking. I gave this hotel five stars for one reason only, and that’s the guest relations manager, Brian Tarabocchia. In response to my original review that I posted here, he responded with a 1,214-word e-mail in which he addressed and explained all of my criticisms. He took responsibility for all my complaints that were specific to the property, as opposed to the brand or location, and demonstrated a completely genuine interest in improving the hotel’s services based on feedback provided. I hope that some day that he ends up at a hotel exceptional enough to be commensurate with his level of passion and commitment.

We just arrived at the airport to go home and couldn’t delay writing this review for this hotel. It was in the perfect location and the views were amazing. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and had everything you needed. This was my first time back to NYC in 10 years and staying at this hotel made my visit worth it. As stated is some of the previous reviews, the lights and noise from Time Square were noticeable when going to bed (we were on the 16th floor), but we were in the middle of it all… what do you expect lol. What this hotel offers in terms of location, cleanliness, and service… far outweighs any noise or light issues you may experience at bedtime… I will definitely stay here again!
