The Colorado Zip Line tour through the mountains of Durango, Colorado is the FIRST and LONGEST zip line in the United States.

Soaring Tree Top Adventures is remotely located on 180 private acres, completely surrounded by the mountains of the San Juan National Forest of Durango, Colorado, and is only accessible by train. This unforgettable experience begins long before you arrive at Soaring. Your Durango zip line tour starts with a first class train ride (Durango & Silverton train) through breathtaking mountain scenery to our remote Alpine location, including through remote Colorado mountain terrain untouched by the public. Visitors from all over the world come to Durango for the chance to ride the D&SNG train, which is included in your full day of adventure with Soaring Tree Top Adventures.

Guests rides in luxury in their own private, first-class train cars. You’ll even traverse along the canyon along a 200’ drop to the Animas River below. It is so spectacular that this view has been featured in numerous films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

After your arrival via the historic Durango & Silverton “Narrow Gauge” Railroad, you will be greeted by the Sky Rangers who are extensively trained for your safety and will accompany you throughout the day. You will also meet the Eco Rangers, who educate guests throughout the day on Soaring’s commitment to sustainability and preservation of the rare old-growth Ponderosa forest where the Colorado zip line and tours resides.

Soaring Guests will experience 5.5 hours of zip lining! A visit to Soaring is not complete without treating your appetite as well. Included in your full-day zip line experience is a delicious four-course gourmet lunch served on a suspended platform that overlooks the Animas River. They have several delicious lunch options prepared on site by skilled chefs, including a vegetarian option and a children’s menu. The kitchen staff is also adept at handling special dietary restrictions and food allergies with advance notice.

Frequently Asked Questions about Soaring Tree Top Adventures

Are there any age/physical/health/etc. restrictions for this activity?

Ziplining requires that guests have the ability to climb stairs and hike up and downhill climbs on forest paths. You must be able to bend your knees and sit in a harness as you zipline from tree to tree. Expecting mothers are not allowed to zipline, but they may come up to Soaring as a Day guest.

Where is it located?

Our Colorado zipline is located 32 miles north of downtown Durango, and six miles north by rail from the village of Rockwood, about halfway between Durango & Silverton on the train.

Is the activity appropriate for children?

Our family-friendly zipline adventure can be enjoyed by guests of all ages. Ages 4-94 have participated in our zipline canopy tour.

Should we make our own train reservations?

Soaring is a full-day adventure package. Our Soaring staff will make your train reservations for you so that it coincides with your zipline date.

Is the activity wheelchair accessible?

No. The zipline course and location are in an outdoor, wilderness environment.

How long is the tour?

Our Colorado zipline adventure takes about 5 1/2 hours to complete the course, with a water/snack stop, bathroom break, and time to enjoy a four-course gourmet lunch in the trees.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes. The recommended minimum weight for ziplining is 50 pounds, and the maximum weight is 265 pounds. If anyone in your party is above or below the recommended weight, please give us a call to discuss.
