"Nine days at the Rio."

Stayed at the Rio for nine days at the end of March 2025. No queue at check-in when we arrived late in the evening. Was informed that the renovated rooms we had booked in June were not available as the hotel was full. We'd have to stay in the old style rooms. Informed the receptionist that this wasn't acceptable. After speaking to the manager for 15 minutes, the receptionist informed me that two renovated rooms were now available! I must say that this was the only negative during our stay. The hotel and casino is very clean, with friendly staff. Comfy beds and pillows. The pool area is amazing. Renovated rooms are spacious. No problems with water pressure or hot water. Casino area not smokey. Only ate at Hash A Go Go in the hotel. Was okay. Nothing special. Had a cheese steak from Tony Luke, which was good. Use the Rio Player's card for 50% off. Across the road from the hotel is a Walgreens, Denny's and other food outlets. Went to Denny's a few times for breakfast, which was good and reasonably priced. Further down are Korean and Indian restaurants. Liked the Indian, but not the Korean. There are a couple of casinos close by - The Palms and Gold Coast. The Palms is very modern, whilst the Gold Coast is a little rundown. However, the Cornerstone steak restaurant there is excellent. Has a fantastic New York Strip. Not expensive by Vegas standards. There is a short walk to the Strip from the Rio. There is an overpass to navigate. There were a few vagrants asleep/passed out on the overpass but didn't feel threatened at any time. Just felt sorry for them. Previous reviews have mentioned the distance to the Strip, but if you haven't mobility issues, it's not too far. Vegas itself was amazing. So much to do and see. The hotels are amazing. The view from the Strat is something to behold. Freemont Street is spectacular. Saw a few shows. Mike Hammer at the Four Queens is hilarious. Excellent value for money. David Copperfield, long drawn out show. Not worth the admission fee. U2 at the Sphere, unforgettable. Although U2 weren't playing and it was 'recording', it was like being there live. Fantastic venue. Saw the ice hockey. Great atmosphere. Went to both North and South Outlets. Bargains had. Walked around 30,000 steps a day. Overall enjoyed the Rio and Vegas. No place in the world like LV. Flew with Virgin from Manchester, via Atlanta. No delays and excellent staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Rio and Vegas. Would stop at the hotel again. Only gave the review 4/5 due trying to give us different rooms at check in.

Wont stay there again unless I have to. Hot water in the room didnt work for the first 24 hours. Rest of the room was in shoddy condition- the fridge door was even falling off the hinge! Staff were inattentive - Customer service has certainly dropped off.

"Never again!!"

This was a “bucket list” trip to see Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. We booked through an agent to stay in the Rio in their newly refurbished tower for 5 nights. On entering our room, which was a non smoking room, we were hit by the overpowering stench of stale tobacco smoke. We called down to Reception who sent a man up with a sort of vacuum and sprayed an air freshener into the air conditioning unit. This was a short term fix and the smell lingered in the soft furnishings in the room for the duration of our stay. The room was generous with new furnishings and a view towards the mountains, but sadly the pillows were grubby and smelt stale. The room was chilly and we tried altering the air conditioner to no effect. The food in the hotel was expensive and we were told that on top of the holiday cost we were going to be charged a $40 a day “resort fee” in the hotel. By day 3 there was no sign of the room being cleaned ,bed made, or towels replaced - and the room felt damper and damper. We complained at reception and they said the room would be cleaned the next day! IT DIDN’t HAPPEN FOR THE WHOLE STAY despite our complaining on a daily basis and being promised it would happen. On checking out we refused to pay the Resort fee but they would only reduce it by a couple of days - very rude and unhelpful staff on the Reception Desk. Needless to say to say we won’t be returning, and from our experience would warn people about the appalling way the hotel treats its guests.

"Better than expected. A new Vegas fav"
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5

The last four times I wet to Vegas I stayed in the Cosmopolitan x 2 and the Palazzo x 2. They both were extremely expensive and were nasty. The rooms weren't clean and the staff weren't helpful at all. It was so bad I went to Walgreens and got my own cleaning supplies to clean the room. I was so disappointed but just figured this is what Vegas has become. With Rio being lower end off the strip I was expected the same but man was I blown away. The rooms were sooooo clean. Really the entire hotel was clean. I was there for a conference and I want to add the the food at the conference was amazing and way better than I expected!!! I absolutely loved it and will start considering staying here than on the strip. I wish Rio still had a shuttle to the strip but otherwise I was very pleased with my stay.

"Long line for the room key kiosks"
TripAdvisor user rating 2.0 out of 5
Reviewed April 08, 2025 NEW
Room was well above average. The line for the kiosks was so long, and because it has no boundaries with the casino, beware of people smoking, the smell of the smoke was so strong, should have more air purifier installed near lobby. Pool was not working at the time we were there.
