Ramada Tropics Resort & Conf Center by Wyndham Des Moines in Urbandale, IA

No hot water in the first rooms, when we got up in the morning, one of the second rooms we got didn't have hot water either! The only reason we chose this hotel was the water park and it was closed and they didn't notify us... the pool side bar looks abandoned...just a tv on.. The bar had one poor guy doing food and the bar... good guy, but get him some help! This place need better management and maintenance! Seen stuff all over the place that should be fixed!! And you really call that a breakfast??? Coffee was awful 😖 Just a Dump!

Absolute terrible experience, staff was rude as can be to the point of calling my wife a b#tch. We had to ask 4 times for toilet paper. No towels , 2 pools open that were a disgusting green shade. Place was run down and filthy. Horrible staff and the breakfast was so e cereal or yogurt. Had to ask for more bedding for the pull out bed and that was like pulling teeth. Save your money and stay home.

Let me tell you the whole story...we got there about 4:30 and our room was not ready because they did not have sheets. They said 15 minutes. At 5pm it was still not ready. They said they had another room with a different view/location so we took it. There was sticky stuff on the night stand (see picture). The sheets on the bed did not fit, they were too big so they kept coming off. That is when we noticed the stain on the mattress cover (see picture). We only had 2 bath towels for 3 people. I ask that evening for more and they said they would bring them right away. After waiting an hour I just decided to shower, hoping they would come while I was in there and my kids could give it to me. They didn't. I had to dry with a hand towel. I did not have hot water for my shower. It was cold. I called when I got out and complained and they said it was because everyone was showering at the same time and there was 1 water heater for 4 rooms. She also told me that the manager said to run the water for 10-15 minutes and then it would get hot. Not sure how that works, but I was definitely trying for at least 10 minutes. The next morning I asked for more towels again. They said it would be a while. I asked them to put them in the room if we were gone, they said they would. We got back for the day and our keys did not work. A worker in the hallway let us in our room with no ID check. Said if the other key that we left in the room didn't work, then to go to the front desk. It did not work so I went to the front desk. They said this happens often. They keyed our rooms with no ID check again. Went to the room and still no towels. Went back to the desk and asked again for towels and they said they were out of bath and pool towels and acted like I was being unreasonable for wanting towels and being upset. Finally got towels 10 minutes later. Ordered a med. pizza and boneless wings at the restaurant there and after 1 hour and only 1 other table occupied, they came out and asked what our name on the order was and finally got our food. The next 2 days our keys did not work again and again they renewed without ID and we're rude when I was upset about waiting 20 minutes to have them renewed and having to do it everyday. They said it happens all the time and never apologized. The third day our toilet clogged and I tried calling the desk at least 4 times over a hour or 2 and no one answered. Went to the desk and asked for a plunger. 2 hours later, with no plunger, I went back to the desk and asked when they would be coming and he was very frustrated with me and showed me that he texted the maintenance guy. I just asked when they would come, if it was going to be that night since it took 2 days to get towels. He text them again and still never apologized for any inconvenience we had. Maintenance finally came and said we could leave the plunger outside the room when done. It was still there when we checked out the next day. We had had it by then and you could never pay me to stay at this hotel again. They bathroom door did not lock, the shower head was dirty and had tons of buildup on it, garbage pieces in the shower and stuff just falling apart in the room.

Pool was great, staff even better! Restaurant had awesome food. Room clean and nice and warm. Hot tub could of been hotter. Prices were excellent for Holiday time period. We will be back for more swim fun!! Swimming life guards kept everyone in line!!

We reserved a room only to use the water park. We had to evacuate the water park and then the hotk due to a gas leak but were soon let back in. My room key stopped working twice during our stay which required extra trips to the front. Also. I have small grandchildren and they shouldn’t let high school age kids in the small kids area of the water park. They were stepped on and pushed aside many times by older kids. Lastly when I called to inquire about possible early check in I was put on 4 holds without anyone saying anything and someone finally hung up the phone. Assuming it wad an accident and the same thing happened again. The sales Manager identified herself and was very rude to me. I asked for the hotel Manager or front desk manager and she refused to give me their name and said they were not there. I sent a complaint online and it was never responded to. All that being said, the rooms were clean and the front desk personnel was Very friendly during our stay. Perhaps allow early access yo the water park if you can’t allow early check in, especially for smaller children. The water park is crazy from 4-5 until 10 when it closes.
