La Quinta Inn & Suites Richmond - Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA

Worst placed we’ve ever stayed! We reserved king suite and were put in a double room with no credit. No amenities whatsoever as they’re under construction, again, no credit given. The halls and elevator are filthy, there’s piles of old carpet and construction debris outside the building.

Pros: Night Desk Clerk was professional, and friendly. Con: The management should upgrade the mattresses while they are doing the renovations. Uncomfortablely firm and needs a more padded top. Pro: The independent HVAC unit kept the room very comfortable. Con: The management needs to upgrade the Lego sized soap. Standard hotel soap would work for showers and hand washing. Pro: The included breakfast was filling and well presented.

Paper thin pillows. Broken floor tiles in the bathroom. Hair dryer shoot flames out of it. The first floor is a kennel. Literally FULL of dogs. Breakfast was horrible. The staff was friendly when we could find them. None of the perks shown at booking were available... pool, fitness center, etc.

My family and I originally had reservations for another hotel, but since their elevator was broken and I currently have mobility issues, we had to book at LaQuinta because the other hotels had no more rooms and the 3rd hotel was booked as well. The ONLY reason I looked any any of them was the convenience of being across the street from Kings Dominion. We were going for Winter Fest and bring in the new year. Now, with all of that being said, let me say there is nothing on the website stating the hotel is currently under renovation. There isn't even a large enough sign stating - please excuse any inconvenience as we are undergoing renovations. The first time I saw something was the letter on the elevator which mentioned the pool, fitness center, etc.. So, as I'm checking in, the receptionist tells me there are no rooms. Then HOW was I able to make a reservation?? I explained the circumstances and he informed me there was one room left but there was a problem with the lock. Anytime we left, someone from the desk would need to let us in. Mind you, I'm a bit confused the lobby looked fairly decent, but we were desperate and decided to check in. He left to unlock the door and we went to the elevator. OMG! The lobby and upstairs are 180 from each other. The hallway smelled like old vomit. The carpet had stains everywhere. We entered the room, which was quite spacious (so that was a plus). The sofa looked old and the throw pillow was dingy. There were no USB ports anywhere. There were scratches on the back of the door, which I presume was from pets. My son found a stink bug crawling on the bed. If it weren't for being so late, we would have driven home. There was one set of towels and there wasn't any linen for the sofa bed. So my son had to go downstairs for some. The facial soap must have been there forever. When I opened the package, the soap crumbled. There was a used washcloth on the shower. This was the most expensive awful overnight experience. Speaking of expensive, it's ridiculous how much they raised the room rate, which I'm certain was for New Year's Eve because I just looked and the rate is approximately half the cost. How do you charge that much when you're down 12 rooms due to a renovation AND the hotel is in the shape it's in? I surely hope they do a good job with the renovations and in a timely fashion, especially being one of only three hotels across from the theme park. I've stated in many LaQuinta Inns and Suites in my life and this is the worst experience I've ever had. I think the morning desk clerk must have known that things aren't great because he didn't even bother to ask me how was our stay as we checked out. He just took my key. I'm grateful we had a place to rest for a few hours but never again!

Staff was absolutely wonderful, that’s about the only redeeming factor. Stayed two nights. Room that we booked was not available initially, but we did finally get it on our second night. First room was filthy, trash still around the beds, and stains/residue on the walls. Toilet was incorrectly installed. Second room was relatively clean. Toilet was broken and was constantly filling. Barely any towels, had to skip showers. The entire second floor smelled like pot. Absolutely unacceptable, especially for somewhere that gets most of their business from a family theme park. The renovations that were happening at the time is no reason for any of the above
