"Three words: Luxurious Safe Space!! :-)"

We’ve come to call the JW Marriott Grand Rapids our “Luxurious Safe Space” on account of two different unfortunate circumstances: - The first one was last August when we were traveling back from a death in my significant other’s family. The hotel we stayed at previously was terrible. It was as if we’d suffered two tragedies in one day’s time!! However, our second night we stayed there at the JW Marriott and it was as if our sorrows had come and gone! To see that review, please visit my TripAdvisor page. - Fast forward to June of this year. We’re in town for my significant other’s reunion. I was very excited to stay in Grand Rapids again, but decided to switch things up and stay at the Grand Amway. Boy did that turn out to be a nightmare!! I was excited to stay there because I had once worked for the company that did their renovations. However, we learned the hard way NEVER STAY THERE EVER AGAIN!!! Gorgeous property, just poorly maintained and even more poorly managed!! For the review to that horrific hotel you can also visit my TripAdvisor page. Nevertheless, this all set the stage for my stay at the JW Marriott Grand Marriott…! First, I called over and asked for Hannah because I remembered the amazing work her team at the front desk did for me and my family when we stayed there! She wasn’t available, so I spoke to someone on her staff named Kyler who could not have been nicer nor sweeter. She was very sweet and professional. When I explained my entire situation and why I needed to speak to Hannah, she got her right away. They were both nice enough to not only hold a suite for me, but offer a complimentary upgrade!!!! Guess it pays to be a Marriott elite member too, huh?! LOL!!! Irregardless, when I called back to say that we had finished up canceling our reservation at the Curio Grand Amway, Kyler and Isreal, along with the amazing valet and doormen, were able to help us get situated right into our lovely suite!! One of the things you notice right away about the hotel is the stunning contemporary architecture and design. It’s elements and spaces are modern, yet flows through forms. Oh, did I mention they also have live music? As well as top notch dining right off the river? Yep, this place has it all. Including the best private lounge in the city! So with the Best Front Desk Crew ran my Hannah, top notch restaurant and lounge, gorgeous rooms with state of the art appliance and amenities and some of the nicest valet/doormen, why would you stay anywhere else? JW Marriott is the pinnacle of luxury in Grand Rapids and that’s why I HIGHLY recommend it over any other place in the city!!! For us, it continues to simply be our LUXURIOUS SAFE SPACE!! :-)

I rated it good because the room was nice and it was very clean. Location is good. However, beware when you are checking in. We were in line to check in and I overheard one of the women behind the desk tell the guest about breakfast, the third floor amenities, etc. She was very friendly. Now its my turn and I get "Stella". No smile, no "how are you", no acknowledgement of me being a Marriott member. Just a glare. She checks us in. I ask about breakfast, she mumbles an answer. I ask about other amenities. I was clearly bothering her. Still no smile and never a thank you. Marriott....Stella needs to be put in a position where she doesn't interact with guests. That said, we had a drink at the outdoor bar later in the evening and Hannah at the bar was awesome. Friendly, attentive and always a smile.

I had a reservation for a year there overlooking the river for the Fourth of July on a site like Booking.com, well come to find out I needed a (river view corner room) to see the fireworks but that room was $200 dollars more, I said no way so I cancel that reservation, so then i got on JW website found the room that I needed, had it reserved on my card, had the confirmation on my phone. Went down there after 4:00 to pay for it, they told me I didn't have that room they told me the rooms went quickly, I told them I had that room earlier. Long story short they skewed me out of that room too the highest bidders

"Fantastic Staff"

My mom, sister and I had the most glorious staycation at the JW Marriott. The staff was kind and welcoming beyond the call of duty, particularly Isabel (at the front desk) and Jacob R (one of the valets). Their huge smiles and friendly conversation, coupled with their expertise and solid advice, took the hotel's comfort to another level. The weather in Grand Rapids was rainy during our stay, so we made the most of the hotel's amenities and enjoyed the 23rd floor Executive Lounge (their dessert hour was a great end cap to our day) and the fitness center, as well as our comfy beds. The room was well-appointed with a Nespresso machine (LOVE) hotel robes, and a marvelous soaking tub (ask for the bath salts!). My sister forgot her toothbrush - no problem, the desk provided her a bamboo one. As my mom said, the weekend could not have been more perfect. Thank you Isabel, Jacob, and all the other wonderful staff members for making our stay feel extra special. We can't wait to come back!

Shoutout to Isabelle at the front desk—absolutely fabulous and made check-in a breeze! The room was spacious, the bathroom was downright marvelous, and seriously… can I take that purple chaise lounge home? Instant love. The first-floor bar was the perfect spot for post-event drinks, and you can’t beat the convenience of being attached to the DeVos Place. That said, signage for my event was a little too subtle—nearly crashed a couple of weddings before finding the right room (oops!). Bonus: they’ve got EV charging on site—just be aware there are more Tesla chargers than standard ones. All in all, a stylish and comfy stay with a few quirks that make for a good story
