"Nice room, but too many negatives!"

This should have been a very good or excellent rating, but everything wasn’t great. If you have not been here before, know that there is the central hotel building and outer buildings. We requested, and paid for a pond view. When we arrived it was very busy, but we finally found a parking space. We thought we would be ahead of the game, and took luggage to the hotel to check in. They don’t have a main check-in desk, but “office” type check in. Their personnel who checked us in didn’t make it clear where we were to go. So…after pulling our luggage a few different directions, a very nice bellman took pity on us and told us to get back in our car, and where to go! It turns out our room was in a separate building with a much better parking situation! Our room was very nice, large, and well appointed. The main Historic district is close, but restaurants are not that close…especially in bad weather...there was a mini monsoon on our 1st full day. We were disappointed in the Christmas decorations in Williamsburg! Definitely not what we expected. There are other towns much more Christmas decorated!

"Not a romantic Inn!"

You could not ask for a better location. You are literally inside the beautiful Williamsburg colony. The grounds are gorgeous. The Giffen Hotel is sadly very dated. It was clean and the bedding was fine, but the furniture, rugs and paint sadly dated. Do not expect a quaint Inn for your visit. It is more like a College Dorm Look. I would stay again because the proximity to the town is wonderful, but I would not pay a premium price.

"More than most people expect"

It took a long time for us to discover staying at the Griffin in Williamsburg. Except for an occasional stay in a historic house, the Griffin is now our go to place. The setting is somewhat secluded and very private. The landscaping is super. (Ask for a room with a "pond view".) There's no traffic and no road noise. The roms are huge. The furnishings somehwat period. And the service is as you should expect at CW, excellent. And even better, depending on your time of stay, the rates are comparable with lesser lodgings.

Stayed here for two nights to welcome in the New Year 2025 with a family visit to Williamsburg. Very cordial staff, large room with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa, plus sliding glass door to patio. Love the quiet grounds with trees and a pond with fountains. Easy walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg. Will definitely stay here again for future visit to this historic area.
