"Disappointed"

We arrived last Saturday 26th October. We travel quite a bit and know that the doorstaff and reception staff are basically the faces of the hotel....in which case then the Godfrey have no hope. I have never felt as unwelcome in any hotel. I felt the reception staff were looking down their nose at us. No polite chitchat....no recommendations of what to do or where to look for things to do....really not a great service at all. Usually doormen smile and say hello, nothing here. Really left us with a sour taste of what Chicago is like. On the upside, our room was clean and comfortable and your housekeeping staff for me was your selling point, always smiled and said hello every morning. Made us feel welcome.

We came here for a wedding. The venue is around the corner from the Godfrey Hotel. I would not come back to this hotel. The staffs are rude and services were terrible. The room was clean but they were under staff. Housekeeping skipped my room one day during my stay. When I called to have my room clean, the front desk told me that they are short staff, they would not be able to clean my room and refresh the towels. The hotel itself does not have a restaurant. I would be be off at Home2suite across the street.

Is it a budget hotel trying to be luxurious? Is it a bottom-tier luxury hotel? The Pros: - Very warm and friendly valet and housekeeping staff - Plenty of hangars in the closet - It is a clean hotel The Cons: - Lumpy bed - NO breakfast service, not even coffee in the lobby in the mornings (and only two of those godawful Keurig servings in the room and only powdered “cream”) - One, low, armless and uncomfortable club chair in the room - In the lounge/restaurant at happy hour (5pm), ALL of the tables in the vast space had RESERVED tags on them except for the half-dozen seats at the bar - all of which were occupied when I was there for a drink - Small lobby with bench seating only, again very low to the ground - No info about hotel amenities in the room (maybe because there aren’t any?) - Front-desk staff seemed unwilling or uncomfortable engaging with guests: terse, incomplete responses to questions and a lack of eye-contact I’ve come to the conclusion that the Godfrey is a “major city” version of a Motel 6: you get a bed, towels, and hot water, but that’s it. So it IS a budget hotel trying to be luxurious. The problem is that there are hotels with more amenities in the immediate area that are only a few bucks more per night. Shop around! P.S. to management. - Please retrain your front-desk staff. - Please consider a simple continental breakfast with fresh coffee/tea and a buffet of fruit and prepackaged breads/pastries and yogurts. At the very least, provide coffee service in the lobby in the mornings so that we don’t have to schlep around River North for it. - Please provide info about hotel services in the room and on the Web site. - Please invest in new mattresses.

"Nice location, bad experience"

I would spend my money elsewhere. Yes, this hotel is in a nice location, and yes, the rooms were nice. That's about it. I was quoted a price for a room that INCLUDED taxes and fees. The customer service representative confirmed twice with me that the rate included taxes and fees, and then we checked out, and taxes and fees were added to what we were told was the total charge. The manager tired of looking into it I guess after one attempt, because she wouldn't listen to my second call with customer service to rectify the issue. Also, the "rooftop" bar on the 4th floor allows DJs to play blaring music until all hours of the night. There was a wedding the weekend we were there, and we called the front desk who said there was nothing they could do and the music would stop by 3. So, in a hotel, where you go to rest, we were just told to deal with it and I guess not sleep. This is a HOTEL that happens to have a bar. It is not a bar, and I would expect better consideration for guests who are good money to stay here. My room should not have had the windows shaking from the music. Also, we asked to speak to a manager and were told there would be no manager until Monday. What hotel has no manager on duty on the weekends when most people are staying? They did give us half off our room for the night, but it would be better if they would require private events to end at a more reasonable hour considering they are a hotel or tell DJs they have to turn the music down at a certain point. Finally, when housekeeping came by, we were getting ready to leave for the day. We asked them to come back around 12:30 to make up the room, and they wrote it down and never came back. We got some fresh towels, but the garbage was left and the beds were not refreshed. I can get better service and a better experience for a much better price at another hotel, which I will do next time.

"Nice but not honest about extra charges"

Hotel is in a great location. Room was on the small side, but clean and well appointed. Staff was nice, though some weren’t very knowledgeable of the area when we asked a few questions. Biggest gripe is that two waters were given to us at the check-in desk that later showed up on our bill as charges, and the “free” WiFi was not free either. Those things marred an otherwise nice stay.
