Not only is this hotel just absolutely beautiful but the staff here are amazing as well. Serena at the front desk was very polite and got me checked in right away. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would certainly recommend this hotel to all my friends.

This is a qualified 5-star rating. And the downside of the place is simply its surroundings. You can see the bay from a Bay View room, but not much of it. What you see and dimly hear is the whirl of is a very large refrigerated storage facility. Some folks may not mind. But if you react to higher pitches, you will. That’s why, counterintuitively I recommend the city side rooms if dim noise bothers you. The street isn’t audible and you can see the mountains in the distance. The rooms themselves are really beautiful with plenty of space. Bathrooms have dual sinks, the beds are super comfortable, and living areas well done. Whoever renovated this place did a great job maintaining the feel of the building itself, while modernizing the rooms within the scope of a historical building in California. The building is the draw. Built in 1926, it maintains that feel. The restaurant is fun to eat at while talking over the art, ceilings and styling. Ditto the lobby. I would recommend the restaurant downstairs. The coffee place excels in the morning. And the hotel does have a great gym — for a hotel. The pool is an after thought, but so be it. Staff is green since the place has only been open 6 months. But that’s part of the charm. They’re not jaded, they smile still, and they help. What more could a customer ask for? Will definitely stay again, just facing city.

"Poor "World-Class Service" and Unprofessional Approach to Complex Situations"

This was my first time checking in and it will be my last. For those looking to book a conference, please read about my experience below before doing so. No one should have to experience what I did at a “landmark hotel” . My organization was having a conference at this hotel for 3 days. I checked in the night before at 8:30 pm, because my organization had booked my hotel room for x3 nights and I had the confirmation for it as well. I was just expecting to verify my confirmation at the front desk and check-in to my room like I have been with other hotels I’ve stayed at. When I was trying to check-in, the girl at the front desk said I had to pay for my room, otherwise I couldn’t go in. This didn’t make sense to me, because my booking was already confirmed and my organization had already placed a card on file for attendees of the conference. Any charge relating to the hotel and the members of the conference were to be placed on the card on file. To reiterate, the organization had authorized the hotel to place charges on the card on file. I mentioned this to her, but she didn’t seem to get it. She was adamant about getting my personal card. She didn’t even attempt to look into the conference that was being held or see if there indeed was a card on file for this specific event. I explained to her that this wasn’t right and if I could stay that Tuesday night, because my organization was already closed. Thus, I couldn’t get in touch with the coordinator who booked my stay. Again she asked for my personal card and charged me $787.84 for the 3 nights. Due to suspected fraudulent activity, the charge did not go through. She then charged me a second time without telling me, but this time for an amount of $1,087.84. I only knew about this, because I got another suspected fraudulent charge notification. In the midst of trying to figure all this out, she made no attempt to seek assistance from a manager nor did she tell customers behind me that she would be right with them. Rather she asked that I move to the side so she could help other customers. I felt embarrassed and shocked she would treat guests in such a manner. For a hotel that prides itself with “world-class service” on its homepage, her service was nothing near "world-class". When I got back to the front desk, the manager was there and apologized about the issue. He promised that my personal card would no longer be charged and that he would be okay with me staying that Tuesday night. All that he asked was that I pay a refundable $300 accidental insurance fee, so I did. The girl at the front desk was standing by the manager and did not say a word. By the time I was in my hotel room, it was 11 pm. It took almost 2.5 hours to figure all this out. If the girl at the front desk knew better, she either would’ve sought assistance from the manager right then and there avoiding this 2.5 hour situation or told me about the refundable $300 fee and allow me to figure out the situation the next morning since it was late at night. I just don’t understand why she didn’t attempt to check the card on file by the organization and place the charges there. The next day, my conference coordinator got in contact with the hotel and assured me I would not be charged any further. The next morning at 7 a.m, I saw a charge of $193.92. I spoke with the manager and she refunded me. She said that management didn’t communicate well about the situation that transpired so that’s why my personal card was charged again. It was evident management from Tuesday night and all of Wednesday withheld information from other management teams, blindsiding its own. I told the manager that morning that I will no longer be staying, because management is not trustworthy. As a patient on medications, I experienced severe anxiety and panic attacks after I walked away from the desk. Tuesday night was outright embarrassing, unprofessional and time-consuming. Thursday morning was just full of anxiety all over again having to deal with the same situation. I sincerely wish management and its business the best

"Brunch at the Nettuno….."

I wrote a review on the dinner last year, but had never gone for lunch. This time it was six ladies celebrating a birthday & I wanted them to experience this beautiful restaurant. Everyone had a wonderful time, however, I had difficulty increasing the reservation by just one more, but the hotel manager finally graciously took care of it. Really don’t know what the problem was as the restaurant was only a quarter full?? We wanted the reservation for 11:30-12:00, but were given 1:30 (again it didn’t make sense?) As a result, we were rushed to finish eating and leave, as they had to close to prep for dinner. Rushing 6 women who were having fun is not good. So everyone was disappointed. Our waiter was very cordial & apologetic, but this was not comfortable. The brunch menu certainly isn’t as good as dinner. The frittata was dry, the mozzarella egg sandwich bland. Best item was the Caesar with shrimp ($34) & the French toast ($24) Wine was extremely expensive. Our waiter wanted to know in advance if we wanted dessert. Of course! It was a birthday celebration! He said he needed to know in advance as the kitchen was closing. Again, not his fault & again he apologized. The highlight was that we asked if we could go to view the Sky Room on the top floor plus the bars there. They assigned Maurio as our tour guide & he gave us a fabulous tour. Thank you!! What would have been a total disappointment ended up a delight. Fairmount Breakers is fabulous and I sincerely hope they will tweak things to make it more accommodating. The hotel manager was extremely nice & helpful. Thank you.
