"Fantastic customer service!"

We were here for the first time this past week and had the pleasure of being helped by David on the front desk. Not only was he super helpful in getting us checked in when they were busy and at capacity- but he went above and beyond in his interactions with us. We are Marriott brand travelers and get to visit a lot of their brands and chains not just in the Orlando area, but around the world- and while this specific hotel was right in line with our expectations for a Fairfield- it was having a representative like David be our point of contact for the location that made this visit top notch. If you are like me and feel that the people are what make a brand worth your loyalty- then definitely consider this property when staying in the Orlando area. You will be glad you did

"Car key taken from room during night, car stolen."
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed January 30, 2025 NEW
For the last four weeks, I have been stewing on whether to write this review, but after my recent phone call to Marriot’s customer service line, I decided I needed to share our experience. My son and I recently drove 35 hours across the country to relocate him to Orlando, Florida. We pulled into the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando, on International Drive, near the Convention Center. It was nearly 9:00 pm; we were exhausted but relieved to be at such a nice hotel after some of our other stops. Our first encounter with the front desk did not set a great tone, he was unhelpful and unfriendly. But again, we were exhausted and headed to the room. Our room was very nice and in perfect order. After cleaning up my son said he felt he should bring his belongings in from his car. Again, he was relocating so his car was full to the brim. He asked me if I thought bringing so many things to the hotel would look suspicious, and I said if someone asked, all he could do was tell the truth. I honestly thought someone at the front desk would say something, at least inquire if he needed help or something of that nature to keep their eyes on what was happening in their hotel. Three trips later, they said nothing, and he came in for the night. When we first arrived in our room, for some reason, my son pointed out that the doors had an automatic deadbolt. Another reason we felt secure staying there. We went to bed and, for the first time in days, didn’t have to be up before first light to get on the road; we slept in late. Upon waking, my son asked me if I had wedged a pair of his socks in the door. What in the world, why would I do that? He said he woke up during the night, and there were shadows from the door; a previous hotel we had stayed at had a gap all the way around the door; he thought it was the same thing but found the socks in the door. Socks that had been in the closet. Very strange. It was about that same time that we noticed my copy of the car key was not by the television, where I have a habit of putting car keys and room keys at hotels. We searched our pockets, jackets, my purse, and all sorts of other places. My son said he was going to check the car, I had a gut feeling that the car wouldn’t be there. It was gone. He quickly informed the manager who contacted the county sheriff’s office. Again, tired and in shock we did our best to give all the information we had. Had we not shut the door entirely? Likely. But it still was more than you can process that someone had been in your room while you slept. Hotel management checked their card reader system to see if a master card had been used; it had not. We asked about cameras, and here is the alarming part. We were told that there were no cameras in the halls or the parking lot. Any information about cameras in the lobby was omitted. The manager seemed to be very cooperative but not upset in the least. Maybe it’s her job to stay calm, but I would have thought someone entering a guest room would be alarming. The sheriff who came was very helpful and professional. A report was filed, and information was taken down. He thought the car could show up quickly because it was not spotted on traffic cameras after we came in the night before. I have spoken with him this week, and he is under the assumption that the plates were changed out because it was never spotted again and has not been found. We made sure the manager and sheriff knew about the night clerk being unhelpful and the rowdy bunch of young men hanging out in the hall on our floor; both would have seen my son come in and out. Could they have taken the car? Perhaps. Could the night clerk turn the other way while someone he knew took the car? Yes. Could someone be looking for an opportunity like this? It seems so unlikely, but it seems like the only possibility four weeks later as I have thought about it endlessly. Here’s my biggest question, with no cameras, what if someone was assaulted? What if a child was taken? What if someone had come into the room and had an altercation? It’s hard to believe there is no security footage to look at. That is upsetting to me and maybe to future guests. We haven’t heard another word from Marriott. I finally contacted customer service, where I was treated very rudely and basically called a liar. I have a police report, an insurance claim, and a son without a car. And I was told that “hopefully, the police can find more concrete evidence.” At that point in the call, I hung up; I wished I had stayed on for the survey. I thought that from a major company like Marriott, I would at least get someone to listen to my concerns and give some sort of validation or next steps. Instead, I was treated in a very accusatory manner. There was supposed to be a report made back to the hotel and another department. I have the case number, but we haven’t heard anything. My family has stayed at Marriott hotels across the country, and this incident left me very skeptical and not wanting to recommend Marriott to others, especially this location.
