I stayed at this property for a show taking place at the nearby convention center. It was barely average. First, it really is a shame that so many hotels, including this one, are moving away from having tubs in their bathrooms. When working a trade show, at the end of the day having been on my feet for hours, I would really love to be able to soak my feet but that was not possible here. Usually, to get a bathtub, you have to upgrade your room and pay more. I also wish more hotels would install makeup mirrors. The lighting in the bathroom was not great and there was VERY little counterspace to be able to put your toiletries bag on. The faucet on the sink was strange, too, and did not allow you to really change the temperature of the water much, especially to the cold side. While there was a shelf you could use, it was not convenient. The shower had decent water pressure and the hot water was plentiful and the shower includes shampoo, conditioner and body wash but I do miss having hand lotion offered as well. I had problems with the air conditioning. Despite setting it at 67, there was absolutely no way that the temperature ever got down that low. In fact, the AC actually turned off overnight one night I was there. I went to bed with it set at 67 and woke up at about 3:30 and was sweating. Upon looking at the AC panel, it noted it was "Off" and I had not turned it off. It never felt that the room got that cool. In addition, there seems not to be any type of soundproofing. I could hear everything out in the hall as well as in the room next to mine, such as the guest sneezing. There was an event taking place at the rooftop bar that I could hear from my room through the window. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were not. The location was good as it is an easy walk to the convention center but the room overall was not particularly comfortable, especially not for sleeping. It was not a particularly good value. Two things I appreciated were being able to get breakfast there (essentially a continental breakfast - NOT included, just available) and that I could leave my bag with them since my room was not ready when I arrived. I am more likely to try another hotel in this area than to stay here again.

Brenda & Claudia are the best! They made my experience extremely enjoyable! I can’t wait for my next trip to San Diego to stay here again! The sun is very warm and full of light. The wind is refreshing and there’s a beautiful aroma in the air. (I’m trying to meet the 200-word minimum for this review)

Not really up to my standards. The room kind of reminded me of one of those Japanese capsule hotels. I used a combination of a certificate and points for two nights in August 2023, as did a friend for a Dodgers Padres game. Unfortunately we each had to cancel the second night, and we were told that the points would be credited back to our accounts. Nothing on our reservation indicated that an early checkout would result in a loss of points. In fact the manager told me, "Look for yourself, see the screen", supposedly showing me the refunded points. In retrospect I should have taken a screen shot with my phone. I'm still trying to get my points refunded back. My friend finally received his points back a couple of weeks ago, after having to continually call Marriott. He is a Lifetime Platinum Elite member, and I'm only Gold Elite. So maybe that helps explain their lack of service in my case. The hotel apparently never responds to Marriott Corporate. The location is good. Excellent for catching a Padres game. In the future, I will probably check out the renovated Margaritaville Hotel next door. It was a great Kimpton hotel, and is probably even better now that it has been remodeled.

"Great Location for Visiting, Though Loud Outside on the Weekends"

I came into town for a few days to explore San Diego a little bit. I chose this Courtyard since it was right in the Gaslamp Quarter. I didn't have a car, so it was important to be able to walk or take advantage of public transportation. Being a block away from the the main drag of the Quarter, 5th Avenue, meant easy access to bars and eateries. Bus stops were only a few blocks away, including those headed to/from Balboa Park, as was the famous San Diego trolley. Even a water taxi to Coronado was a 10min walk away, just behind the convention center. And of course Petco Park, home of the MLB Padres, is like a block behind and down from the Courtyard. So great location for sightseeing and play tourist (which I was!). As far as the hotel itself, it's a small property. But it has amenities just as good as larger ones. There's a small cafe on the second floor for morning coffee and pastries. It has the typical Courtyard Market (which importantly had a microwave). And there's an awesome rooftop bar called "The Nolen" that offers great views of the city and good drinks; I didn't get a chance to try the food. Be aware that there's no complementary breakfast. But there are some tasty and affordable brunch spots just outside the hotel. The hotel staff was excellent. They were always very friendly and checked-in with me frequently via text to make sure my stay was comfortable. The rooms were definitely on the smaller side (I had a double since I was traveling with my brother), but that's typical for a city hotel; space is always at a premium. The room was inviting, the bathroom was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable; I had no problems falling asleep after a night out or a day spent walking around. It was just enough space for two people; more than that and you might be stepping on each other. The room also had a mini-fridge, but it was confusing since it didn't appear to be always on. Not good for keeping leftovers. Seemed like I could only keep it cool for 2hrs at a time. Weird, but not a huge deal. My room faced towards the street (west), so the bay window on an upper flower gave great views of the city. Also good for watching the hustle and bustle on the streets. The only negative with this hotel is the noise from outside during the evenings throughout the whole week. The pedicabs on the street often play loud music as they pass-by, or pick-up and drop-off people. Saturday night and Sunday night it gets much louder as there's a nightclub literally across the street that plays very loud music (good beats though) til about 1-2am on the weekends. The bass was loud/strong enough it vibrated the headboards of the bed! None of this is the hotel's fault; it's just something to be aware of if you're looking for peace and quiet at night. It's the city after all; it tends to be loud. Overall, it's great hotel for tourists. I'd highly recommend.
