"***Warning Folks***** My disgusting stay at Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee"

My disgusting stay at Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee I reserved a room on August 12, 2024, for my son's Navy Graduation on 9/12/24, and I arrived to check in on 9/11/24. Upon our arrival at 1600 hrs, we were dismayed to find that the only available room was a handicapped one, a far cry from what we had expected. The room we were given was a far cry from the one advertised on their website, a clear case of misleading marketing. The bathroom had no ventilation fan, so whenever you showered, you had to open the door for 20 min before shaving or being able to put makeup on. Oh, and if someone had to take a number two, well, god help you if your significant other does nasty doozer in the toilet. You would be smoked out of the entire room. Oh my, I almost felt like a sick patient and was sleeping in a hospital room with, yes, a beautiful hospital-looking bathroom with a lovely metal mirror, very little light, multiple drains on the floor, and one right in the center of the bathroom. Thanks for skipping the ventilation fan installation at Courtyard Chicago—Waukegan/Gurnee. It made my stay an enjoyable experience, to say the least. Then, on day 3, Discovering dried blood on the comforter, just inches from my face, was a shocking and disturbing experience. It's appalling that I slept with someone else's bodily fluids so close to me. This is not the standard of cleanliness one would expect from a hotel like Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee. Oh, I almost forgot the supposed brand-new beds. Boy, do these beds look nice and comfy on their website? Nope, we had two queens on a box spring placed on the floor, and oh boy, it felt like I was sleeping on a concrete floor. Let's keep going; the breakfast was even better to describe; well, let's say on the Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee website, you will see a beautiful picture of a plate of food with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and wheat bread, Yummy well I thought, and this is why we upgraded to get the breakfast which of course was additional. Well, we didn't receive this plate of food. Instead, we received a cardboard box full of garbage food; my 10-year-old daughter could have cooked up better, but god bless her, but I would pass on that opportunity. Oh, and we are not done, folks, yet; this place is a real winner, winner chicken dinner, well their website makes it sound like they have this 3-4 star restaurant and bar where they service this incredible food and all, but NO, upon my self being hungry one evening during this adventurest stay at the ( Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/GurneeWell, an employee told me, don't bother ordering because the food at this so-called incredible bar and restaurant is nothing but dried chicken patties, microwave food that is put together in an instant to then charge you at a minimum of $15.00 per whatever they are trying to sell as food. Well, to my dismay, I was so hungry and just wanted to see for myself; upon approaching the bar, I saw the young lady pulling a tiny little pizza from the microwave and then proceeding to cut it up with no gloves, then opening the cash register, then going back to plate this so-called pizza so she could carry over to the unsuspecting poor individual seated at a table getting ready to have a feast: poor thing, shame on Courtyard Chicago. To sum up, if you are attending your Navy sailors' graduation, this place is a complete joke. There are at least 20 other hotels where I would spend your money to enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime experience. And let's say this complaint has nothing to do with money; I mean, it's only $230 a night for a 3-night stay; no, this is about warning the public that this specific hotel is run by a bunch of cons and sheisters, which, none of the pictures they advertise do not resemble anything I saw or witnessed. and upon complaining, do you think I was helped or even maybe " I apologize, what can we do to remedy your concerns?" Nope, I just got the typical excuses and middle finger; I mean, not literally, but it felt like it.

I stayed for one night with some friends to go to a concert in the area. The renovations they are doing throughout the facility are very nice but there were some hangups that would make me reconsider staying here again. We stayed in a standard double queen. The rooms were also recently redone. The balcony on the rooms are a nice touch. However, if you are not used to noise, I highly recommend requesting a room that doesn't face the freeway. It was SO loud at night, especially when trucks would whir on by. The pillows were not good. I can usually adapt to a hotel pillow, especially for a one night stay, but these were so uncomfortable. Paired with the extra-firm mattress, I could not get comfortable all night. The other two friends that stayed with me were both in agreement on this as well. With that being said, there are also many pluses to this property. The main areas are very nice and I liked the addition to the Starbucks counter. The front desk staff was really kind, prompt, and personable. The pool area is large and has plenty of seating. It looked like there was a private, outside area connected to the pool for the warmer months. The renovated bathrooms in the rooms are very nice, especially the shower. The property is also within walking distance to a Walmart and multiple restaurants. Overall good hotel that needs improvement on the small things.

"Perfectly situated for navy graduations"

We came into Chicago for my sons Naval basic training graduation ceremony. This hotel was not on the list of hotels suggested by the base however the reviews were indicative enough to say that it was a nice stay. The front greeter John has got to be by far the most professional gentleman we have ever come across in our 30 plus years of traveling in various states. Thank you for making it so comfortable and memorable and taking the time to truly appreciate our the service our son is giving in the military. You were a pleasure to meet! The room was immaculate! Beds comfortable, exactly what we needed!!!!

This place needs to be cleaned up and renovated. Only half of the hotel is being used. When you look out of the glass door across the courtyard the rooms across have furniture overturned and look dirty. The stairway on that side of the building is closed. Our room had very outdated and filthy furniture. There were chips inside our pull out couch. The staff at the front desk were incredibly rude. We were overcharged for our already very expensive room. I highly recommend booking a newer hotel across the street if possible.

"DO NOT STAY HERE - Dirty, Dusty and Expensive"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed February 15, 2023
This hotel is dirty, very old interiors, dusty with yellowing carpets and curtains and all around in terrible condition. Its baffling to me how this property gets any good reviews! We reserved suites here for 3 nights and it was so dirty and dusty that we only stayed the one night and moved to another property. The suite prices were expensive compared to beautiful clean hotels in downtown Chicago. We don't normally have allergies or other breathing issues, but within an hour of being in the rooms we were wheezing and sneezing and itchy. The sofas in the rooms are so old that the arm rest fabric is frayed and falling apart from years of usage. When you sit on the sofa is sags. We were afraid to pull it out for fear of what would emerge. The bedding and towels however are very clean so that was the only plus. No water pressure in the shower. The bathroom is very old and yellowing. The curtains that were once white are yellowing and frayed. If you have any allergies, even if you don't, do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE. We selected this property because it was close to the Navy Recruit Training Center and we were in town for the PIR Graduation. Its proximity and the reviews made it seem like this was a good choice. Its NOT. Its filthy and the price was outrageous for the condition of these rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful, but this place needs a serious cleaning, they need to remove those dirty carpets, curtains and saggy fabric sofas! DO NOT STAY HERE!
