"Nickel and Dime to No End- Avoid Staying"

I booked Big Cedar for 3 nights through New Years 2024-2025 to get the Home for the Holidays Special. They don’t tell you this but it’s 200$ a night deposit when you check in. So on top of the 1600$ for 3 nights, we had to cover another 600$ deposit hold for the 3 nights which is insane. Then we checked out, the front staff who are ‘new’ charged another 600$ hold on our card by accident. I only caught it when I checked my account in the parking lot before leaving. In total they had a 1200$ hold on my bank account before I had to literally debate the registrations manager and requested she remove the second accidental charge. The room we booked was a valley view 2nd floor. Horrible parking. The room AC shuts off at will. You can hear everything your neighbors are doing. The rooms look like something from a 90s camping cabin. There’s no microwave. We also added the Thank You package as well which includes 100$ food voucher, 100$ Fun Mt. voucher and 50$ resort credit. The front desk registration people had no clue what the Thank you package was. We went 2 days before I realized they weren’t applying those vouchers to the room. I had to literally show the workers at the front desk what the package was on google and they had to hand write vouchers on our 2nd night since anything already charged to the room could not be changed. This place is insanely overpriced for what you’re getting. We ordered a pizza and hamburger through room service the first night there the total was 80$ 30 for pizza, 20 for a single burger, 10$ delivery fee, 10$ resort fee, 4$ can of cola, 4$ lemonade and that’s not including a tip. The ice skating if you can even call it that was horrendous to the point you can’t actually do anything on the fake plastic ice sheets. This is such a ripoff. Avoid this. The front entrance lady is god awful and rude and if you enter in the front with the big gates that winding death road up to the top of the mountain to get into Big Cedar is crazy dangerous for two way traffic and then finding the registration office and path to it is ridiculous too. The place is like a maze. Take the back way in is much easier. Use Fun Mountains address to come up the back way. The entire stay was a nickel and dime shakedown basically. Do yourself a favor and book a 4star hotel in Branson and drive through the light show here and leave. The amount of money this place squeezes out of you paired with the cranky staff and horrible rooms is not worth it at all.

"We love Big Cedar, but 2024 was different."

First, let me say that my family has always loved Big Cedar, and we will probably try again in the less busy months. That being said, there is a major issue with the staff and the Christmas experience we were trying to give our kids. If you have small kids, you could likely shield them from this negative atmosphere, but this trip was very different than years past. We were greatly considering becoming members with Blue Green and I'm so glad we declined until things get better. There were great moments, but again, this year was just odd. The cabin we stayed in was dirty. The staff at both eateries seemed miserable and tired of people. At Fun Mountain, an on-site arcade, we had a spectacular time. My 3yo and I got beer spilled on us because a man wanted to stumble over my 7yo, likely drunk. While cleaning up my toddler, a worker remarked "Can you move. I'm waiting on you." Trying to finish off with a bang, we waited in line so my two older children could play laser tag. The attendant let a group of 10 adults cut us and fill up the arena, telling us we have to wait another 15 minutes. I tried to get our money back but all sales are final. My phone had poor signal, so I couldn't use our app to call a shuttle. The staff also said they couldn't call one for us. We walked back, finally making it to the main buildings (there are no walk-paths from Fun Mountain). Big Cedar has been our Christmas vacation for the past few years, and I think we will try somewhere new in 2025.

Perfect stay for us in Falls View Lodge. Check in was smooth with front desk people very professional and helpful. Christmas time at Big Cedar is amazing with all the lights. We took the tram tour and it was great, Housekeeping was there every morning to check on our needs. The price for staying is what it is no surprise. Thanks Big Cedar for another great time during the Christmas season

"So sad to write this review"

This trip was pretty disappointing. We booked in July for the “Christmas in July” special. The “special” price was $750/night. However, looking at the prices while we were staying here, they are $600/night. We called to see if we could get the current rates and were told no, sorry, you agreed to the rates you paid. We love Big Cedar and look forward to coming 2 or 3 times a year. It is getting pretty ridiculous on the prices and lack of quality. Even a K Cup in the Shoppe is $3 now. Prices have doubled and tripled to stay. Housekeeping only comes upon request, even if you put your sign out saying you’d like housekeeping. Truman’s is a completely different shop than it was a few years ago. Food and coffee quality not half as good as it was. The girls at the front desk stand around and talk instead of paying attention to the guests at guests services. We had to go ask them to help us each time we came to play pickleball and shuffleboard. It seems like it’s totally commercialized compared to what it used to be and it’s so disheartening. Make sure you don’t book any “specials” because they are just a tricky way to take your money. Sad to be swindled by a place that is clearly making tons of money each day.

"ICE SKATING at Big Cedar Lodge"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed December 17, 2024 NEW
Love Big Cedar. Have been going here for 10 years - This review is solely for the ICE SKATING on the premises. Awful and almost borders on dangerous. It's plastic (ice) and you pay quite a bit for the skates. Many of the walkers that help the kids balance were broken. I'm just surprised Big Cedar hasn't come up with something better. They are top notch in everything else. Sorry I couldn't find where to leave this review specific to ICE SKATING
