Best Western Los Angeles Worldport Hotel in Wilmington, CA

This hotels speaks to being restful and relaxing, which it is not by any means. It is terribly noisy and is in desperate need of a renewal. All night long cars from the complex behind were coming and going with loud mufflers and stereos. The room has torn curtains and overly worn carpets. It also smelled like mildew. The desk staff was friendly. Access to the hotel is difficult when coming from the freeway. A homeless person set up camp across the street.

Upon checking into the room, there was a faint smell of marijuana in the room. I only had time to leave my belongings and head out to an event. I returned late at night; the scent still lingered in the room, but I was tired and went straight to bed. In the morning, I went to use the iron, which was attached to the closet wall. As I removed the iron, I noticed a fair amount of marijuana (around 2 grams) on the top closet shelf. I immediately called the front desk and requested the supervisor remove it. The supervisor and the head maintenance technician came to the room a short time later, I showed it to them, and they removed it. The supervisor apologized and said she would speak with housekeeping. She then offered me a meager 15% discount on the room, the standard discount for booking on the BW website. Ironically, this hotel requires a steep $200 deposit at check-in and informs guests that if the room smells like smoke, they keep the $200. The supervisor assured me that I would not be penalized, which I wasn't. I did think it was weird to require such a steep deposit from guests and demand they do not smoke in the rooms (including marijuana), only for the guests to find a fair amount of marijuana in the room. I understand that marijuana is legal in some states, not federally, and that there are a lot of people who are okay with it. However, many people (like me) also can't stand it and want nothing to do with it. A 15% discount falls far short of what I had to deal with regarding my morals, viewpoints, and standards. The room should have been comped. At this property, it is clear that management is more concerned with turning a profit than creating a democratic space for guests who are not pro-marijuana. Bottom line, if you are pro-marijuana, then stay here, as there is a probability you will find free marijuana waiting for you in your room. On the other hand, if you do not want to see or find drugs (legal or not) in your room, stay somewhere else, as there is a probability you will find marijuana in your room here. The choice is yours!

Terrible experience. We stayed here in Aug 2024. I woke up in the middle of the night and found 10+ cockroaches in our room. (On the night stand, the walls, the floors, the bathroom etc.) It was absolutely disgusting and the front desk seemed quite unbothered (and clearly aware) of the problem. They did offer us another room, but obviously we declined as I'm positive there are cockroaches in all of the rooms based on seeing so many in ours in such a short period of time.

The service and breakfast staff were exceptional! The area was convenient to the ferry to Catalina Island. However there is a homeless population right next door! The property is in desperate need of an update. The rugs throughout the hotel were terribly old! The rug was so worn out you can almost see the floor! Totally unacceptable!

We chose this hotel as it is a 10 minute taxi ride to cruise port. The campus is clean rooms are comfortable and staff was very friendly even though we were only staying for one night. No restaurant but vending for snack and soda was available. Denny's restaurant is located right next door. Breakfast was provided and included eggs, bacon, toast, waffle maker, several dry cereals, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee and milk. We will use this facility the next time we visit the LA area.
